Hi all,
Finally, my KV-1 is completed. It was supposed to be a submission for Big n Beefy campaign, but I had to hold till my wedding is over.
This was an OOB build and a very good kit from Trump. I struggled with the decal due to the armor plate and damaged one good half of them while trying to cut holes to fit the screw heads. But one interesting experience was mud making. I tried a comby of salt and coffee powder with washes (of course, have to rub off the excess) and the effect acutually turns out quite nice. Thanks to the great folks here who shared their experiences.
Please feel free to comment, thanks for looking!
Cheers!

Firstly, congrats on your wedding. Many years of happiness for you and your bride.
Secondly. THis kit rocks. I am building it now also. I like your weathering on the tracks and wheels.

Hey
Congratulations with your wedding.
Looks nice your model. To bad you could not finish it.
But I must agree with what Vanderboer says. The model is not finished yet. I believe the bottom of the tank must be much more dirty. Hit has seen mud and dirt you put that on your tracks and roadwheels so.... I would also spray a darker colour on the bottom and a more lighter or 2 above that. I once made a Leopard 2A5 real dirty. You can see it by clicking here (Just browse to the modern page and select Leopard 2A5.)
By the way I really like that headlight of yours. How did you make that??

Great ! I like this kit !!
but it isn't done yet I feel, it needs more mud / pigments on the running gear and lower parts of the tank
the one colour mud seems a bit ""boring"", try to make it more interesting putting one or two more layers on in a different (darker) colour
maybe even adding more varnish to give it that extra fresh mud look...
good luck and once again, great model
cheers
Dominique
Yup, I do agreed with you guys that the kit seems unfinished, I will touch up more on the lower hull. Thanks for looking and the encouragement!
Cheers!

Hi Roel,
First of all, thanks for your well wishes and your comments. Like I said b4, agreed with u guys that the "finished look" wasn't there ye. Well touch up and repost soonest.
As for the headlights, here it goes:
1. The outer shell of the head lights were fitted and painted together with the main body
2. after all paintwork done, I painted the interior of the light with silver
3. Next, glue the acrylic piece but I only apply glue on the top end and not all round.
4. 1 stroke of oil wash and that's it!
Cheers!

That is a nice build!! I would be happy if I can get 1/2 your finish..
I will be building this kit soon. This is my first military kit after like 7 MG gundam kits. And hope you do not mind if I use yours as reference...
But I have some doubts about the colour of the tank. I have read in several places that the exact colours used on the Russian tanks have been greatly misintepreted. It was said that the colours in all the web resources are in accurate, because if it is a drawn picture, the colour is just the artist;s imagination. And if it is in the musuem, the tank have been re-painted.
So it bogs down to 2 colors: Mr. Color 135 Russian Green 1 and Mr. Color 136 Russian Green 2. I believed you have used Russian Green 2, but it said on the bottle that it is used in "late" war.
So anyone have any clue or leads to the actual colours used on this tank during the 1941 era?

Hi there,
I am flattered by your compliments. Well, actually, I used Mr Hobby's H340 (Field Green), mixed with some % of white. I chosed this as I am more inclined towards acrylic paints rather than emanel..
Meanwhile, i did touched up a little and the link to my photos as below. Looking forward to see yours!
Cheers!
