I'm getting ready to use pastels for the first time My question is this Would I put the markings on first and then use the pastels,or di I do the oposite? Also would I use them heavily on say the upper hull an interior? I'm doing the Tamiya Wespe

Definitely do the markings first. This way you can weather them as well. I suggest spraying dullcote over the markings first, though. Pastels work best on a matte surface. For dust, of course, the pastels should be heaviest at the bottom of the tank and fade up, but you can use pastels for other things, such as rust streaks and grime inside the tank.

Folgore is absolutely right about applying markings first. I am assuming you are going to be using pastel chalks. Is that correct? You can achieve really nice weathering results with pastels. One thing about the chalks is to have a good brush for applying them. I have a very soft brush with a lot of hairs for applying my pastels. With this brush I can load up with the pastels dust and go nuts.
