Won one on ebay last week, should be here soon, what can I expect to find from this old kit while I wait for it to show up? Anyone have it...build it...modify it? Better tracks and details...anything else?
Thanks in advance...

Hello Bob,

The kit itself is a nail.
But the hull is dimensionally correct. With a lot of TLC and replacement parts it can be turned into something respectable. You will need to scrap about 95% of the kit though.
Scratch build all the interior, remove and replace MG, spare track and tooling on top. All the running gear is scrap, replace drive sprockets and road wheels, but KEEP suspension units and rear idler.
Any M4 Sherman road wheels, drive sprockets and track will do.
If I knew how to post a pic I would post mine.
If you want any further details PM me with your email address and I would be glad to help where I can.

Cheers

Kevin,

If you have a digital image available, click on the "my photos" button at the bottom of one of your own posts. It wil take you to the Kitmaker network and they will ask you to register. Once registered, you can access the photo area and use the online facility to upload your photo from your own PC to your gallery area on Kitmaker. Once the photo is uploaded, Kitmaker will display the photo plus, at the bottom of the page, give a line of BBS or HTML code that will lead to that photo. Click the button that says "copy to clipboard" for the BBS code and then come back to the thread on Armorama. Paste the entire line of code into your message wherever you want the photo displayed and you should be good to go.

Hope that helps.

Paul

If it's the original Nitto release, it has black rubber (not vinyl) tracks with a ribbed inner face like a fanbelt and a ribbed drive sprocket to match. You will need to rob a lot of stuff from Sherman kits to make it useable. Usual 1960's problems, like tools molded onto the surface. You'll need to scratchbuild the side grills and any internal engine compartment detail yourself. The kit has reappeared in Revell, Hobbcraft and Blue Tank boxes (the latter with completely inappropriate Ramstein Diehl rubber padded track).
On the plus side, Hobby Boss has announced two new-tool 1/35th scale versions for release this year. Keep your fingers crossed that this isn't one of those release schedules that drag out for years like AFV Club's.
