Greetings all,
Thought I might voice my reasons for donating to this site for the new equipment.
Maybe it can help inspire others to do the same.

I went to a couple of the other armor sites on the internet that I used to frequent before I found ArmoramA. I hadn't been to any of them in a long time, and now I remember why. Some things never change. On almost every page of posts, there was somebody who always had to let another member know that he hadn't followed the proper posting guidelines. And if they don't mend their ways, well, it's just possible that the world could actually come to an end (my words). Of course, these guardians often never follow the rules themselves (incomplete names or my favorite, the anonymous post).
And the always popular...Look it up yourself, it's been discussed before!
So what if a topic has been discussed before. Ask it again and you just might get another opinion or piece of information no one has posted before.
Yes, there are a lot of nice folks on these sites that are friendly and helpful to others.
It's just that you really don't find this kind of negative attitude on ArmoramA. Everybody here seems to go out of their way to be friendly and helpful.
I've made some new and good friends here in our chat room. I've gotten some great advice and information from the forums.
And let's not forget all the great looking models we have to look at in the gallery.
As our community grows, there will be the inevitabel problems. But because of the nature of our members, I believe they will be few and far between.

It took me a while to realize just what a unique and special place Jim has created for us.
My donation just may be some of the best money I've ever spent on this hobby!
I have to get down from my soapbox now. I'm getting a nosebleed.
Thanks for letting me vent a little

I used to go to just Missing links. It's a good site and has a lot of great content, but there were just some things I couldn't live with. I want to be able to contribute, but it seemed impossible to get anything into the site but posting on the forums. I also couldn't stand the three pop-ups for every look at a post in the forums. Track link also seemedto be run by a certain few and it was hard breaking into the circle.

Here I was welcomed immediately. When I had a suggestion, Jim listened. Even if it was not a good idea, he still listened to me and didn't just tell me how stupid I was. I have learned a lot here, and feel I have made a real contribution to the site. By the way, a couple months ago when we saw some new quotes in the "General Remarks", I am proud to say, some of those were my contributions, including the "If it bleeds.." and "I may be Drunk..."

I am not trying to toot my own horn (then again, maybe I am), but I was just tickled pink when Jim said he liked them and added them in. I hadn't been to a site that actually wanted help from it's members. That is why I want to help the site in whatever way I can. I am also tickled pink that so many of you have felt that way, too. I think we are half way there towards getting a new server (I say we shoot for the Backup Raid) and I encourage anyone out there who hasn't had the opportunity to help to click on the link to the left and make a real difference to the best site on the net. Thanks Mel.

Here, Here... Or on the other sites you get, two posts a day in each section (My estimate). I can't keep up with the posts on all the forums here.

We went through the donation thing almost a year ago when Jim had to pay for the program to let us chat (another idea brought out by the rank & file). Fortunately Jim found another chat program that was free and was refunded the money. Most let him keep the dontaions for future expenses rather than return the dollars. Others have donated kits for prizes, although this has backfired a bit!

I for one, only check old posts when I recall a subject that is resurfacing. It's fairly easy for us users who have been on the site day in and day out since its inception. For someone new to the site, they wouldn't know if the subject was discussed 9 months ago. At least here, when someone points out that the subject was discussed before, they usually include a link to the old thread.

About some other armor modeling sites, the pop-ups are gone at ML since Osprey Publishing took over sponsorship. They still will pull post though. Someone asked a question regarding the M548 and I answered the post giving my motor pool as a reference. The post was deleted a day or so later because he only used his first name. Funny thing was his e-mail address contained his last name.

Much more user friendly here.
