I apologize if this has been asked before.
But has anyone used these paints? Are they as good as the "real thing" you have to thin with turpentine?
Thanks!!

These paints are excellent. They are made by a reliable company and are artist's quality. The fact that they are water mixable makes them very easy to clean up (with soap and water) and they can be thinned with water, but I haven't really tried it since I find no need to thin them for painting figures and I don't use oils for washes.

Are they acrylkics or oils? I have seen the actylics in tubes at the local hobby shop... or are these "oils" that are water soluble? What about drying time??

They are indeed oils. Drying time can very from a few hours to a few days depending on how thick it is, the climate, and what you are painting over. The local art store here doesn't even bother selling the regular kinds of oils because these are just as good but are easier to use.

Ok, now for a Q of my own..
I also have bought a set of these, made by Camlin in India. Can they be used for painting the kit, or should be used only for washes?
Am waiting with bated breath for a reply ...!
Cheers,
BP.

Hi guys
I have some water mixable oils too. There was a great article about them in Military Modelling a while back (sometime in the last couple of years!).
They can be mixed with water or regular oil thinners. You can mix them with regular oil paints too! Of course, once mixed with oil medium they are no longer water wash up!!
They can be used just like other oils, and from the MM article, they work just like regular oils when mixed with oil thinners and oil paints. I have only used mine a few times, but they 'behave' just like other oil paints.

Interesting topic.
I've had a couple of these W&N water based tubes for awhile now and never used them for some reason. Reading this, I'll have to give 'em a shot now.

bytepilot, if you mean for painting a whole kit, like a King Tiger or a Spitfire, I would not recommend any oils for it. I stick to enamels or acrylics for that. For figures, though, oils can be quite useful and these are no exception.

Hi Folgore,
Thanks for sorting that out. I was under the mistaken impression that you could use these paints for painting a whole kit .
As for figures, do you need to prime a figure before you use these paints on them? Or is it just a straight application?
Thanks for answering my q's so far

Thanks for all the info and replies guys. I will definitely try it out now.
So what would you use as a base for this oil paint? Can I use a cheap acrylic skin tone base and paint these oil paints over it?
Thanks!!!

I saw them in the local Michaels craft store. They are about $4 per tube. I'm not sure where you would buy them in Belgium/Europe.
