Well, I figured Henk's idea for an OOB group build was right up my alley, so here's my small contribution to it: an OOB Tamiya M151A2 MUTT that I've been building to get back into the hobby after a ten-year absence. I'm almost done with it. So far I've painted it with a spray can, given it a couple of washes (one of which failed--enamels don't seem to make good washes, at least for me ), and drybrushed it. I'm now pondering whether or not to muddy it up to a bit (I'm going for a Vietnam MUTT) and how to do so. Please let me know what you think.

Hey Lucas,
Glad you are on the Henk's project too! I think you've done a great job with the spray can on this one. The color of the seat cushion looks great and the weathering are just fine . I think the shavel and tires could use some flat coat. I know you are not finished so can't wait to see it when you finish!!
Pretty awesome after 10 years of absence

Thanks for the comment! Yesterday I sprayed Testor's Dullcoat on it to flatten out all the paint. I also installed the M60 on its mount. Now all that is left are the finishing touches (gluing the windshield and steering wheel on being the last ones). I'm trying to paint the accompanying figure, but my attempts so far have failed miserably , so I may finish the build without it and move on to the next model.

Looks like it is coming along nicely. The Tamiya M151A2 kit ts a great little kit. I have a few. Academy's new one is better though.
A side note, the M151A2 was used in very limited #'s, if at all, in Vietnam. By the time it was being fielded, the war for the US was winding down and we had pretty much stopped sending new equipment. The primary MUTT version in Vietnam was the M151A1. Academy has a great M151A1 kit too, but it still needs a couple corrections on it. The Tamiya kit represents a post-Vietnam vehicle as used up through the late '80s when it was replaced by the HMMWV.

Thanks for the correction, HeavyArty. I did find it a bit odd that I couldn't find many refereces to the A2 in Vietnam. Oh well, I guess I'll hold off on the red mud treatment. I'll call it a Vietnam -era MUTT in that case.
Since I couldn't find decals for it, the model only has the basic tire pressure and info panel decals.
