I was thinking of using krylon fusion flat black paint as a base coat/primer on the one piece soft tracks (vinyl?). Has anyone used this paint and does it hold up well on this material? Is there any downside?
Thanks,
CWatson

That's a very good question! If this is the paint used on plasic outdoor furniture, then I think it will be fine.Always a good idea to test first. Try it on the sprue runners of the tracks? If none, then worst scenario is tracks are goners and aftermarket or trade for new vinyl is the fix. Please let me know how you like the outcome.
cheers!

I was unable to find Flat Black so I used some Satin Black I had from left from painting the hard plastic door and wheel well trim on my Jeep Cherokee. After washing the tracks (from a Academy M1A1) and letting them air dry I sprayed two or three light coats and let them set for three days and have been bending them to see if the paint will flake and so far the paint has worked as advertised. I will update again once the tracks are mounted on the kit and see it they hold up to weathering.
I have had trouple in the past with primer not sticking on some plastics, usually cheap kits, and since the Fusion line also has grey primer I may start using it as a primer on my next kit.

The paint has held up well, great in fact. I detailed the tracks by painting the areas that are supposed to be metal a rust color (tamiya hull red and rubbing alcahol) with silver in the high wear areas with a silver pencil then a coat of testors dullcote and after all the handling the black fusion has not flaked or lifted. The paint is a thumbs up for this application for me.

I'm going to have to give this a shot. Thanks for posting your findings for us.

I've used Krylon primers on car models before, and it seems to work well. Doesn't lay down as fine as Tamiya, but a darn sight cheaper!
