Greetings all,

This is just a general question about the size of the 75mm barrel on Shermans.

I notice on the Dragon M4A1 kit that the barrel is much thicker than the Tamiya one.

My builds are done now so I'm not going to change to AM barells at this stage, but I was wondering which manufacturer got closer to the actual thing?

Any thoughts???

Cheers

Al

DML got theirs very close to the actual. According to measruements taken by K Laughlin, the plastic DML one is the closest among the kit ones. Here's his great article comparing various kit and aftermarket barrels

Hi Roy,

Thanks for than, I suppose the answer would have been to buy AM but I'll live with what I have for now.

Thanks for the link, one more little bit of modelling knowledge added to the grey cells.

Cheers

Al

Edit: That's some article, talk about research LOL, LOL

From Kurt's article, you can absolutely see that "just buying an aftermarket barrel" isn't necessarily the best solution.

While not covered, Formations' releases are purported to use exact measurments from Kurt himself. Knowing Formation's tendency for accuracy, I picked up a bunch of them. To my eye, they look very much like the accurate DML barrel -- beefier than the Tamiya offerings.

I'd recommend Formations barrels if you want to go aftermarket

Hi Roy,

I have 3 additonal Tamiya turrets completed, not sure if I want to bugger them up at this stage but thanks for the tip for the future.

Cheers
