Greetings all,
Well a little disappointed that the Firefly Ic is going to be a 1/72 kit but .... their old 6??? kit is still listed as a new kit on PMMS. Anyway, thinking back to a post earlier this year it was also announced that Dragon would be bringing our a 1/35 M4A2 Sherman Mk III.
What versions of this would you like to see. Personally as it was used as one of the two types of DD tanks I'd like to see both a Normal one with Deep Wading gear and a DD version.
Any thoughts, or any news on ths kit???
Cheers
Al

Al I've got to agree that a DD Sherman would be a gift from above instead of having to spend a small fortune on a resin one!

Trivia: There were THREE types of DD Shermans. The US built 350 M4A1 DDs, some of which were used by British forces. These tanks and many of their users were omitted from the recent Osprey "Swimming Shermans" volume.

Hi Karl,
Skirts up or down?
Chad,
Yes any neww additions to British/Commonwealth armour would be welcome.
Gary,
Good, point. As they have the basic hulls for the M4A4 (Firefly) and M4A1 this would be a nice develpoment. Pity they didn't re-tool the M4A4 when they re-released it, or at least I saw it not so long ago on Lucky Models and thought all my Mk V problems had been solved only to discover it was the original kit with the wrong sized hull.
Don't you just love Shermans :-) :-) :-) :-)
Cheers

I don't think it will be a DD tank and I think I remember Vodnik posting that it will not be a DV tank either. Since I'm going to great lengths to convert the old M4A4 upper hull to an M4A2 hull with cast hoods for 'Akilla' of 1st Nottinghamshire Yeomanry, 8th Armoured Brigade, which destroyed five German tanks at Rauray, on 30 June 1944, that will almost certainly be the version released and in Akilla's markings
In these days of slide moulding would it be possible to have two seperate glacis plates in the kit one DV one not.

Hi Pat,
That sounds about right :-) :-) :-) :-) Akilla it is then complete with markings and all.
Don't know about the slide moulding technique but I don't see why not if they made separate glacis plates. Thay would be cool but I'd prefer a DD version then again why not a 3 or 4 in 1. About time for that don't you think???
Cheers

The Sherman I remember Dragon is supposed to come out with is this one, 1/35 DML6062 USMC M4A2 Okinawa/Tarawa I already have my pre-ordered and I noticed the price has already gone up $4.00 more. Now this is a good one to see arrive. With a dozer blade and some various items from HardCorpsModels the OKI version will be mint.
I also have the 1/35 Dragon Firefly to put together after I have completed my current project.

Hi Bob,
Yip, I remember that announcement and there was a preview of the kit done on site. However, not long before that there was also an announcement that Dragon were bring out a British version and that's the one I'm refering back to.
Not that this version won't be most welcome as well.
Cheers

Hi Alan,
I'm not 100% sure, but I think that the latest reissue of the M4A4 ( 6182 Firefly Vc) has the proper length hull and the proper straight roller arm. Although the lower hull access hatches are still improperly placed ( matters if you model your Firefly upside down!)

Now even I would be tempted Alan if anybody produced an affordable DD Sherman. We can but hope that somebody will be listening to our views.

Firstly the Sherman three according to Pavel is going to have a different hull to the M4A2 Marines kit which is being release. Also he said It will not be a dv hull. That only leaves a cast hood/welded panel M4A2. As it is specifically listed as a Sherman III I would assume it will have commonwealth fittings and I'd bet at least one of the marking options will be for a Royal Scots Grays in "Ambush type Scheme" I'd also bet on Polish and french markings as these are quite colourful despite shermans only coming in OD (according to the know all german modellers).
I'd like to see at least six marking options including Brit NWE, Canadian NWE, New Zealand Italy, Polish Italy, RSG Italy, French NWE
I'd love to see DML eventually do a swimmer and they could use the vinyl material they did the M4A2 76 Mantlet cover with to give a working screen to give you options of swimming or partial or full collapse.
I'm just happy to be getting two kits of the M4A2 in its most numerous variants.
I've waited since 1996 when DML first announced this one.
Cheers

I forgot to add that the 1c will still be coming but it is a new tool and will take some time. AFAIK the 72nd is a Vc and not the 1c. I'd love DML to do a welded 1c at some time and given the way they are going on Shermans I can see this eventually. After all they will soon have most of the building blocks for the majority of the family.
Keep em coming DML

I'd like one of these
Sherman
and some infantry to go on the back. Not too much to ask for..
BTW the photo Dragon have been using shows a tank with welded hoods, how common were they in British/Canadian/Polish/French service?

Same old same old, I suppose...
... a Sherman III suitable for the majority of British/ Commonwealth and French purposes is most welcome.
Maybe what Dragon should do is produce after-market for their m4a4/ Firefly to allow for the various funnies etc. I realise that this would undermine the resin makers, but it would be a godsend for those of us with a slight phobia of resin parts (ooooooo they're too brittle! etc).
Final Sherman thoughts for Dragon- proper early versions- DV, M3 sussies and all the fittings required for desert Shermans (or is it Shermen?). Again maybe as aftermarket upper hulls etc. Why not? Stranger things have probably happened!

Hi Frank,
As far as I know too the Firefly VC 6182 has the correct hull length for the M4A4, at lease I hope so because I've turned 2 of them into Mk V's :-) :-)
It was the earlier M4A4 that I saw re-issued and on sale at Lucky Models that got me excited only to discover that is the one with the wrong hull, sorry I don't have the kit no.
John,
If we can drag you away from the darkside in the bright and shinny world of OD, not that would be something
Gentlemen,
Some cool ideas there, I'm not against Dragon doing AM parts for the Shermans it would be a lot cheaper than the alternatives and their tracks are always useful.
Early and late gun mantels - yes please, metal barrels as standard - yes please. New and interesting crew - yes please, a wide choice of decals - yes please.
Al, good thoughts on the swimmer, my thinking is that they must have just about all the right hulls now to take it a stage further. Sorry I don't know who Pavel is but I'll take your word for it.
Glad to here the Ic is being re-tooled, kit 6228 is still listed as a new 1/35 kit on PMMS. What's AKAFI?
David, Nice picture with the early gun mantel and cast hull., make a cool kit. Some new infantry would be great also - tank riders - yes please.
Mc, thoughts as above and yes DV versions were appropriate as an option would be very cool indeed. With the slide mounding technology that's possible I would think?
Finally, anyone here when this might come onto the market. Best recolection of the original post was some time this year????? :-) :-) :-)
Yip keep em coming Dragon.
Cheers all,
Al

Aaaahhhh, what Shermans do I want.....
As a certifiable Shermanoholic, here's my list:
1. Early pattern M4A2s, one with DV and Lee suspension and one without using straight roller brackets. Please provide options for eliminating the pistol port.
2. DD tanks of all flavors in styrene, please. I'm hungry.
3. M4 howitzer variant, with or wwithout HVSS.
4. Chilean/Israeli conversion parts for:
A. M50 with 60mm hypervelocity gun
B. M50/51 engine decks and exhaust for new Continental diesels
5. Injection molded kit of Sherman Crab. Dragon, listen up: I'll pay $75 for this kit if you correct your gaffes on the M4A4 hull while you're at it.
6. Early M4A1 DV hull in plastic.
7. Correct and freshly tooled M31 and M32 ARVs in plastic.
8. What the heck, the same for Sherman III ARV and Sherman V ARV, both versions please.
9. A new Calliope rocket set with aluminum rocket tubes.
10. Aunt Jemima minerollers in plastic.
11. 'Dozer kit in plastic and brass.
I'll stop before I go ballistic on variants of the Lee/Grant and the TDs....

I believe Academy is supposed to make an M4A3E8(105) howitzer tank with dozer blade
I also believe Tank Workshop has the engine deck/exhaust you are looking for on the M50/M51 series Check the tankworkshop.com site

Sorry, I should have stated re Pavel, is Pavel Vodnik who is cordinating this project for DML. He answered a lot of questions regarding the M4A2and Sherman III on ML some time ago.
The picture if it is a welded hood should be no problem to replicate as the Okinawa M4A2 is a weld hood variant, T49 tracks are available from AFV, Academy, RHPS and DML (M4A2 USSR 76). An ealy turret mantlet is avail from the DML M4A4 or better to go with a formations one.
As for the Brit Tank riders try Cromwell models in Glasgow.

Hi AL,
Thansk for the feedback that's great. That's a very postitive source. Re the tank riders I have some Cromwell ones, but a few more in plastic wouldn't hurt, be a lot cheaper and could also populate my boats/trucks etc!!!!!! :-) :-) :-)
Cheers
