Hi,

Anyone has more details on the upcoming Revell T-80UD kit? Is this kit based on Zvezda or Skif? Revell website says the kit will be release in October.
Revell Website

Thanks.

I hope it's not based on the SKIF kit. I'm finishing it and it is not that great. (Doesn't look like the SKIF in the photo.)
(By the way, the Revell site isn't really correct. The T-80 was never intended to replace the T-72. I hope that's the only mistake they make...)

Looking through elsewhere on the site I see they have a T-72M1 listed and one of the bullet points is "New mould". But isn't this just the DML T-72?

Revell is also releasing a T-72B 1:35 in October. Yes, probably Dragon/DML mould.

I just wish someone come out with something new... like a T-84 or a T-90.

Zvezda was supposed to be coming out with a T-90. I emailed them late last year and they indicated (from memory) Spring '06. It is listed as pre-order at Great models:

While Revell normally reboxes Italeri kits, they have been known to toss a DML kit into a Revell box. For example, they issued the DML BRDM-3 in markings to represent a former East German vehicle in Bundeswehr markings. They also released the DML MLRS rocket pods with the Italeri M977 HEMTT. And about 10 years ago they released one of DML's Abrams kits (not to be confused with the current reboxed Italeri M1A2). They probably boxed others as well.

I'd like to see new tooled kits inside, but would not be surprised to see ex-DML kits in the box.

Yes, I have heard that they are just reboxing the DML kits. Too bad.

The SKIF kit is not bad as far as dimensions go, it just needs better detail. OOB it is a bit too toy like. My recomendation is to add the Eduard PE to the kit...a easy fix to make it stand out.

If you are braver, SP Designs makes quite a few correction and conversion kits, just click on my link below to see... (Shameless plug)

Thanks October

With the posts earlier this week about Italeri and Tamiya combining their kits, perhaps Revell thought 'If they want to be like that...'
Italeri and Dragon have also co-operated together in the past as well so maybe it's just one of those things.

Hi,

I can confirm that the Revell kit is the same as the Zvezda kit.
Revell T80UD = Zezda T80UD.
Dragon T80 w/ERA = Zvezda T80BV with ERA.
The Zvezda T80UD and T80BV with ERA have hull, tracks and one sprue in common with each other.

Cheers
Vec
