Yes, the US troops use air recognition panels for their vehicles. One of the most ubiquitous one is the VS-17 : it comes equipped with tie downs for attachment to just about anything and snaps so that multiple panels can be joined together. The VS-17 has both a high visibility pink side and a high visibility orange side . The size is 20" x 72 " (but I think it may differs from one manufacturer to another....) :
Another type of panel is used by the Marines and it's called "Combat ID Thermal Panel Marker (TIP-5)" :

Don't forget the slatted thermal ID panels now seen on pretty much everything that moves. These are also primary ID methods for air as well as ground identification.
