Haven't been around for awhile and what was taken for granted, is now greatly appreciated, for me as " what's going on " in the kit industry.

I want to clarify that this kit can *not* be built up as one of the dark grey prototype Tiger (P) that we see photographed on the test range. Italeri's "Tiger Ferdinand" #6278 is a plastic-injection kit of the prototype Tiger (P). The command tank obtained by the 653rd, the subject of this kit, was different in many details.

The turret of this kit is where I got involved. The tank had a truly unique turret, with cupola and vision ports different to any other Tiger. But Dragon have tooled the turret sprue such that it can be reused in ordinary Tiger kits.

Is there a metal part M30 supplied for the loader's hatch?

No Ben, it can't. Thanks David, no metal part such as you describe? There is a small PE part MA 30, Yep, I've just checked again, and yes it is included, it's the hinge for the piston assembly on the hatch.

Ben: the prototypes turret roof was lower, so you would need a new roof and new turret sides as well. I'm sure that Ferdinand experts would point out many differences in the hull also.

Vinnie: that part should not exist. I think someone at Dragon misread a diagram.

so gentlemen, would the turret of the Italeri's version be accurate? By using the Italeri's turrent and DML chassis will I be able to build an accurate version of the prototype?

Well, Benjamin, I can only speak about the turret. But I know that the hull in this kit has additional frontal armour that was not present on the prototypes. The hull cannot be assembled without the armour.

The Italeri turret has the unusual roof that the prototype requires. However it's from a previous generation of kits and doesn't have the fine accuracy of this Dragon kit. In particular the turret is not asymmetric.

Slightly off topic, but I've gotten into the habit of drawing a packing diagram for Dragon kitsets; the first time I open the box I draw a rough diagram of where each sprue tree is in the box, and work my way down layer by layer - saves spending a valuable half-hour trying to figure how how to get everything back in!

I wonder whether Dragon could consider incorporating a set of packing instructions??
