John was always good for a laugh with his wry sense of humour and was a great MAFVA character and we will really miss him personally, not just his services and knowledge. Filling his shoes as Membership Secretary will take some doing.
He was still helping folk on our website forum the day before sadly, he died. On Sunday 20th August, he made two entries on the earlier string giving directions to a member in the USA how to attend the next London meeting. That was John, ever helpful.
All our sad condolencies go to his family.

Damn
Had some good E-mail conversations with him regarding busses in use during WW2... Send him a lot of pics received a lot of pics and a lot of information and had good contact with a lot of fun and jokes. I can only second that he was a very helpfull man which I enjoyed mailing with.
Very very sad to hear pass on my condoleances to the family please.

I somehow totally missed this and only just learned from this through AFV news. I'm very saddened by John's death. I was 19 or so when I first travelled to the UK to see Bovington camp and an event at Duxford. It was the first trip on my on there and he helped me getting things organised (I still have a phonecard he gave me) and I stayed at his place for a night. He also arranged for me to stay at Spike Judd's place then. Apart from that we were also in touch a lot by mail, trading information and articles. I have fond memories of him. It was great knowing him and though I've not been in touch the later years he will be missed.
I met his family at that time too and am sad to know they've had to go through this. Are they doing ok?
Bye, Ming-Hua
