Does any one know of any decent pics of an armoured Mutt from Nam? I have found one in one of my books but its black and white and not all that clear and i have limited results with Google, I want to try my first major piece of scratch building and need a good starting point. Any help would be great Thanks

Here you go.
Also, if you have one of the newer Academy M151A2 hard tops, you can use the hardtop pieces as a template for the armor plate. They are basically the same.

Some had the backs open, some did not. If it was open, it would basically be open where the rear plate dips down.

I am searching through my photos to see if I can find some other pics. The gun MUTTS were armed with single or twin M 60's. Thee were a few that had the old 30 Cal MG on them. There were no M 2 50 cals that I know of. I do know that one was mounted on a 151 for a short time but it failed at the range. It was to big for the little mutt to handle. The floor metal around the base cracked and tore up after only 50 rounds fired.

Thats a cool looking bugger! Obviously the flat windowless rear quarter armor was qute conductive to 'personalization'....

There were a few in black. Most were in OD or dark green. The black was a flat black with a little OD green mixed into it. The dark green was OD with a heavy rubdown of diesel fuel or old motor oil to darken the paint and give it a little shine. It would get very dusty at first, but as the oil dried it would look shinny but not gather dust as much. We used to wax over them after the oil dried. This is not a common practice with all trucks and vehicles, but these stood out and we were aloud to get away with this practice.
