Hi All,
Wondering what mods I have to make to the AFV Scimitar to back date to a Falklands version. An earlier posting stated that the engine grills and idler wheels were different? Any pics of this early model Scimitar floating around? Tried Googling and hit the usual sites but I don't really know what I'm looking for...
Thanks for your patience, once again!
Regards

Hi Peter,

The Osprey New Vanguard 13 - Scorpion Reconnaisance Vehicle, has some good pictures of the early vehicles, including the one you want as well as the other variants. I have had a look but cannot find my photos of the scimitar from my days with light track [recce]troopin the mid 70's. I will ask the wife when she gets home from work and if they come to light I will PM you as I have some with the front decks dismounted and laid on the floor.

The Osprey book is very good though.

Peter,

I dont know if this one helps you, it is of the first scorpion that I served on, but our scimitars were the same to my memory and we had the wading screens fitted then of course. There was an airwaves PE set for each vehicle that had a lot of the details to assist in building. The photo shows the decks quite well.

Hope this helps,

John

Haven't seen any pictures of Falklands Scimitar. Just a few of the Falklands Scorpions. They may be similar to Belgian Scimitars.

The early idler wheels are dished versus the newer spoked idler wheels.

According to "Tanks Illustrated No 22: Scorpion The CVR(t) Range" by Simon Dunstan, the Scimitar was adopted for service in 1974. Pictures from that timeframe show the old style bolted front grill. There are also pictures that show the new style hinged front grill and one picture is annotated as being from 1976. In the absence of a definitive photo, I'd say that either front grill was possible on a Falklands War vehicle.

But you may need to get a square rear turret bin.

None of the Scimitars or Scorpion photos from the Falklands I have seen have the wading screens fitted.
