Well, that's a quite wide question Matt... Some more info would be good to have before at least I can answer. For example with what kind of paint are you using, is it your first fig and so on.
Tell us a bit more and it will be easier to answer you! Good luck with the fig!

Matt, according to me you have made an excellent choise! That's is the same paints as I work with, and I love those paints!

I don't want to sound rude know, (I don't know how much experience you have with painting other things) but as it is your first fig you should concentrate on putting the right colour at the right place on the fig. First when this is properly done you can start thinking about the shading and highlighting.

How I would paint it? I have actually already painted this fig some years ago, and I think this is a good way. Make subassemblies consisting of the MG, the arms, the helmet, and last the body together with all the equipment and, wichever you think is easiest, with or without the head. Paint these apart and then put the fig together and touch up with paint where needed.

Some more help on painting is easier to give while you have started. Feel free to ask more questions as you progress! I hope some of this have helped you!

Hi Matt,

Great choice of figure. Tamiya's German MG'er in Great Coat was the first figure I painted on my return to modelling a few years ago.

I disagree with Andreas in that I assembled the figure leaving only the personal equipment off before painting. Personally I found this to be easier.

The best place to start? The face. Once you've done a great job on the face it gives you a huge confidence boost!

Pop in over on Historicus Forma, we've got tonnes of figure related tips and we'd love to see your first figgie.

Rudi
