It's brother was the m1917 & m1919. Was it used in Vietnam on Convoy Escorts?

I saw one South Vietnemese (ARVN) escort jeep with two 30 cals installed in the rear. One on each side behind each of the front seats. They were mounted in the M-34 Jeep.I saw this vehicle on the road from Cu Chi to Tay Ninh in 1967.

Wasn't the M37 a coaxial variant of the M1919 used in tanks and some cupolas like the M113 flame thrower turret? I didn't realize they may have truck mounted them.
