Hi I'm new to the site and have been reading a lot about people using pastels to weather their planes. I am from the UK and would like to know what sort of pastels people use and where I can buy them from. Tips on how to use them would be good as well.
Thanks.
If in doubt get as much lead down the range as possible.

Hi Chris,
first welcome to BiG A !
You can build pastels in any artists stuff shop. This will prove less expensive than in a model hobby shop as you can get larger quantity for a far cheaper price.

Just be sure you buy the chalk type, not the waxy "crayon" style. The wax type may work but not as well.

I agree, any art supply store or crafts shop will have them. As already stated, make sure you buy the chalk pastels and not the oil pastels. The chalk ones when ground up will 'dust' on very nicely with a brush while the oil ones just clump up again after you try to grind or shave them.

I buy most of my pastels, oils and brushes from Hobby Craft - but there seems to be a lack of coverage in East Anglia - a visit to the midlands would seem to be the best bet for one, but any decent art shop will do.

Chris,
As well as pastels it is worth mentioning that there are various suppliers of pigments now, I know that you may not need to cover your aircraft in mud, but some use pigments on their aircraft. Mig and MMP are the two that I know, but there are others.
Afore I forget........welcome to the site, especially another East Anglian.
