Hello All
Did the M34 truck get fitted with the quad turret whilst in Vietnam?
Can't seem to find any guntruck pics of them so far.
Cheers

Haven't seen any w/ an M55 quad .50 mount. I think most M34s were replaced with M35A1s by the time the guntruck concept started.

The answer is no. They could pull the trailer mounted Quad but none were fitted on the cargo bed. The M 34 was phased out of service with the US forces in 1966 and replaced with the M 35. The truck stayed in service in Nam with some of the ARVN units up to the early 70's when they also got the M 35's.

I think most would have been replaced by the time the "Guntrucks" were in service.......... Dave would know for sure though..... I have yet to see a pic of one and don't recall if they're mentoned in either Volume of "The Hard Ride"

From what I have read, quad .50's were never mounted on anything smaller than a 5 ton truck
IIRC, the book "Vietnam Order Of Battle" shows a meatchopper in action while mounted on a 5 ton

They were initially mounted on M35A1 Duece-and-a-Halfs as well.

The former president of Dusters, Quasds and searchlights , a reunion group, stated 5 tons were seen in the souhern half, deuce and a halves in the northern half. So, both are correct. The Transportation companies and some MP companies also use 3/4t and 5/4 t trucks as gun trucks as well ,though not with M55 mounts. A/1/9 had a Mule with a mini gun mount as well.
