I wanted to depict a ptrol scene during the postwar occupation of Germany, but wondered how to show it. What Allied vehicles were used, how were they marked and where did they go? Thanks.

The Squadron book on US Armored Cars has pictures of Constabulary Vehicles, the M8 in particular doing what you are looking for. If you can lay your hands on it, I think you might find it helpful.

May I suggest you go to your nearest library and try to borrow the video of "the third man" from Carol Reed with Orson wells. it's a 1949 excellent movie that is situated in occupied Vienna with russian, british, french and american zones. loads of jeeps.. It's a real classic, you should enjoy it

Don't know how "post" your postwar diorama will be be. Aside from the aforementioned Jeeps and M8 armored cars, by 1948 the US Army had also purchased Volkswagen Beetles! Fred Crismon's "US Military Wheeled Vehicles" has a photo of a whole depot full of them lined up for inspection. Vehicles in the postwar period usually received a coat of semigloss Olive Drab rather than the lustreless OD seen during the war.

FYI, the "Official Occupation of Germany" didn't end until 1968 -- I've got the "Metal of Occupation" to prove it :-) Same as my Father's.

P.S. - Well at least as the "Occupation" applied to Berlin. "Occupation" of the "Zone" did end earlier late 1950's, early 1960's I think

They were still issuing the Occupation Medal in the mid to late '80's to personnel assigned to Berlin, you're right about the VW's, we had them although they were only used as admin vehicles in my unit.
