Hi guys,
Can one of the M1 experts give me an opinion on which of the two different wind sensors in the kit is correct for an M1A1HC? I'm doing the one from the kit identified as being with the 1st of the 64th Armor, 3rd ID (since 3ID are local boys in south GA).
Thanks!

Most of the AIM tanks I have seen, including my old tank company's have the streight one. That is also the newer of the 2 wind sensors,and gives better readings than the older "T" type.
On another note it also makes it easier to put our Kevlars and LBE's over them for storage.
EDIT: I was wrong, on my first tank we had the round wind sensor with long vertical cut outs. When we got our new AIMS we got the "T" type wind sensors. I had to go back and check my pics. Sorry about the mix up.

They probably both be accurate. There is really no rhyme or reason to their application. I tended to see the round headed one more in the pictures I have seen of them in Iraq.

The one w/ the T top (part Q6) actually is the one I saw most often, if not all. I do not have my photos handy at the moment, so I am going off memory. Many of the photos in my book are from 1/64. Also, Concord did two books right after OIF1 that have many photos of 1/64. If you do not have any of these books maybe someone here who does can check.

Both are accurate and equally as common.

Hello All,
The T-Type wind sensor is the newest version and it's made by J-Tec. These are the ones going onto the tanks coming out of Anniston Army Depot. I know this for a fact since I had to get a replacement wind sensor for a new Marine LAV MOD (DID I JUST LET A CAT OUT OF THE BAG)? I had one pulled directly off of the rebuild line.

P.S. There is or was a third wind sensor as well, that is rarely seen anymore. I'll have to see if I can come up with a picture or name.

There are/were 3 types of cross wind sensors used on the Abrams;
T.S.I.- cylinder with small round holes.
E.I.I.-cylinder with larger vertical slots.
J-TEC-"T" shaped top.
I have seen all 3 in use at the same time, maybe depends on what was available at the time.
