The Esci kits are the best. They have recently been re-released by Italeri (M60A1 and IDF Blazer) and Revell (M60A3).
Good luck.

To make my M728 CEV, I used the Academy M60 kit with the M-9 blade mounted on the front with the AEF M728 turret conversion lit in resin.

As stated, the best M60s to use are the former Esci kits put out by Italeri and Revell. Which one you purchase depends on the era your CEV will represent. If it is an early CEV, then either Italeri kit (M60A1 or Blazer) will suffice. If you want to model a more modern variant (post 1980), then the Revell kit (M60A3) gives you the later top loading air cleaners.
I always wondered why Esci didn't include both the plain and thermal shrouded barrels and both styles of air cleaners in all the kits.
