Have there been any UN vehicle campaigns?

I was curious if there has ever been any UN vehicle campaigns? Seems like there are quite a few vehicles to model. I'd love to do a UN weisel or pirhanna or the likes.

If you are referring to campaigns on Armorama, there hasnt been any UN specific campaigns as far as im aware but the existing campaigns dont seperate the vehicles to that degree. ie: the Greatest Ever Tank or Purple Hearts campaign include all vehicles from all countries.

Not sure of the actual campaigns however.

Last year there was a campaigns named S.I.K.FOR Ya, to depict vehicles, planes, ships, etc, involved in the Balkans during the 90īs and 00īs. Some white UN painted vehicles were built.

Unfortunately, a great bunch of people enlisted and just a few actually finished. A shame, since a lot of things could be built related to that specific thematic.

Cheers

I would be interested in this. I just got AFV Club Scimitar kit on E-bay for real cheap. Would be great reason to build it up.

Well you figure UN being an international build.. You could do all kinds of transports, fast fighting vehicles and wheeled softskins. I just thought about it at the LHS looking at a Trumpy LAV, a wiesel, and a couple other small AFV's for a light 'snack' build. Maybe watching Blackhawk Down got it my head the other day too. You could easilly include just about any major nation's vehicle's. You know, anything in UN white finish. Hmmm I was thinking there are a lot of sub $30 kits out there(heck a AFV club weisel with PE is only $25) that would work and even modelers on a very low budget or without an airbrush could still do something pretty nice with a can of Tamiya AS-20 and some pastels

Maybe even the LHS will finally move that odd Korean transport kit off the shelf...

There's a lot of UN opperational activity in the news right now too.

Just so you know, the UN markings included in the Trumpeter LAV 25 kit are incorrect.

They appear to have been based on UN markings applied to Canadian Coyotes deployed to Eritrea, Alfrica.

A UN campaign would be very interesting.

As a former UNPROFOR member (as my nickname says) i'd love to join such campaign. Maybe for 2007 ?
I'v got lots of pictures taken from all kinds of vehicles but unfortunatly not realy walkarounds because i didn't know i could use them for the hobby at that time , stupid, stupid :-) :-)

Kevin,

The UN markings in the Trumpeter LAV 25 can't be used on a LAV 25.

The U.S. have never deployed the LAV 25 on a UN mission.

In fact the only U.S. UN white painted vehicles I ever saw where a few M1025 HMMWVs that were used by U.S. forces stationed in Skopje, Macedonia in 1994/1995.

There will be very limited subjects if someone wanted to build a U.S. crewed vehicle painted in UN white.

While the U.S. provides about 26% of the UN Peacekeeping budget they do not usually supply troops.

There were/are about 372 U.S. personnel serving with the UN deployed to the Balkans, East Timor, and the Sinai in 2006.

Of those 372 the majority were/are civilian Police(347) and there were/are U.S. UN Observers(17) and only 8 U.S. Troops were/are deployed wearing the UN blue helmet.

There are still plenty on other nations that have and still are supplying troops and vehicles to UN missions.

I was thinking mor along the lines of the weisel myself... I just saw a few models in a row with UN markings on the boxes for the idea. The cool thing would be the subjects would be off the beaten path.

The Wiesel Mk.20 and Wiesel TOW used by the Germans during UNOSOM in Somalia were very nice.

A painting tip for the Wiesel Mk.20 as used in Somalia is when painting it the hull, turret, and ammo boxes are white but the 20mm cannon mount attached to the turret was still painted in the three colour NATO cam.
