Although I have seen the beautiful M977 guntruck by Charles King on Armorama, I have never seen any pictures or any evidence that such truck exist. I find it's a very interesting idea, and I'd like to build one as well. So, can someone direct me to or post pictures of an actual HEMTT guntruck please?
Thanks

Are you kidding??? I don't like to made a fool. So please don't throw your accusation on me. Inquire first before you accuse someone. I found that photo on the net in some military gallery. I don't remember where. If it is photoshoped than it sure fooled me. To back it up, I got assurance that it was a vehicle used in Iraq. Either that or someone passed one over my head.
Also, please show me where it has been photoshoped?

Indeed, there seem to be a little blurry area on the picture around the soldiers at the back of the truck, and it could be photoshop but it also could be there for any other reason like low resolution, or whatever.
Doesn't anyone here know someone who is or was over there in Iraq that can confirm that either one of you is right?
...and maybe send some more pictures...
Cheers!
Nik

Charles I think that Kevin is pulling your leg. He and I know that this is a real truck that served in Iraq in 2005. It was assembled at the Skunks Work shop, where a lot of trucks are up-armored in country.

I have seen many "Gun Trucks", everything from the 5-ton cargo to HEMTTS, though this HEMTT is not a M977, but rather the M985 Cargo HEMTT. So, Yes, I have seen them , but like I said, mostly they were the normal 5-ton Cargo trucks, and HUMVEE's all produced localy.

Thanks Dave for the reasuurrance. It did not seem he was pulling my leg. I apologies to Kevin for jumping the gun there Please forgive me. Thanks again Dave. BTW, I always get the M977 and M985 confused. They look so much like each other if the other half of the vehicle is not shown. Indeed the one I build was the M985. Sorry for jumping the gun there.
Thanks Dave and Michael for setting us straight

Chuck...i was kidding....
Dave, thanks for catching that...
Nik, there is no blurry area, it is low res...
Mr. King, there is no doubt that your skills are top notch in the area of model building. One look at your gallery will attest to that fact.
calm down all...back to building...

Sorry for not catching that but I already made my apologies to you and can do it for the second time I apologies to you Kevin. Maybe you should have just made a little clear you were joking
I'm fine now but just wanna clear up that this had anything to do with my abilities for building models but rather a wrongful insinuation about the integrity of the pic and me presenting it as the vehicle in question. That's all. Nothing more. Thanks for iterating what Dave had already mentioned.

Uh? What exactly is the difference between M977 and M985? I looked at pictures on the net, but they always show the same truck...
And please, don't tell me the difference is 8 ! #:-)

I think it has something to do with the crane capacity and the storage facicility. I'm sure the more military pros will set the records straight.

There is nothing that you would really notice from looking quickly at them, the M977 weighs in at 38,800-lbs w/ wench; 37,900 w/o wench and has a smaller 445hp engine. The M-985 weighs in at 39,600-lbs w/ wench; 38,700 w/o wench; and it have a 450hp engine. They still carry the same amount of cargo, and have the same amount of crane capacity, but the M-985 is an "up-armored" version. If you look at the door on HEMTT in the pic you can see that it’s a factory "up-armor" door, and not a "local manufactured door, that’s one giveaway about the type of HEMTT it is. Also if you could get right up to it you would see that the Crew compartment is also armored with ballistic glass for driver and TC/gunner

Thanks for that Michael. It's so hard to see the differences with these vehicles that are so closely made

Hey Martin, I saw yours. Nice man. Good job. I like that you added the cab gun mount as well. Cool.

Sorry I jumped on this thread so late, but the quality of some guntrucks is too good to resist!

Guess I missed this one the first time around.......
That is incorrect. A standard M985 is not armored. The M985 has a specailized cargo attachment system in the bed for MLRS pods and a heavier duty crane than a standard M977 . It is used as an ammo carrier for MLRS units and usually pulls the M981 HEMAT trailer. The uparmor does not change the vehicle nomenclature, it just becomes an uparmored M985 or uparmored M977.
Nice guntruck above. Looks like something out of the Road Warrior.

Hey Gino, is the look of the crane exactly the same as the M977 crane except for the weight capacity of coarse? I also assume that the M985 has the storage box on the right side as well, which the M977 does not. Am I correct in saying this?

The crane look the same, but doesn't extend as far . If you mean the storage box on the frame, yes, it is there.
