I read somewhere that for airbrushing you can thin modelmaster dullcote with future.
It seems that this is as good as using thinner and that you get (depending on the mixing ratio) a satin finish.
Is this correct. I don't want to ruin a model experimenting.

I don't see that possible as dullcote is laquer based. It can be thinned with testors laquer thinner. Mixing with Future sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Both out of the bottle are thick already and dry at different rates. Some acrylic paints like Tamiya can be thinned with laquer thinner.
There is Testors acryl semi-gloss that can be bought and usually airbrushed right from the bottle. I have trouble getting a model glossed with future(acrylic) all the way back to a true dull. I am going to try to use acryl matte finish next time(I have the semi and gloss now and they work well)... I have heard of people using Tamiya flat base with future for satin as well.

I would imagine if you are using the Model Master line of acrylics, then that dull or flat coat would thin with future.

well Dullcote is laquer based. The Acryl Gloss/Semigloss/Flat clear overcoats are acrylic.
Considering they are all thinner in consistancy then Future and of higher quality, why would you add any it to it at all? Just do the satin/semigloss clear overspray specifically designed for modeling to put a satin/semigloss finish on a modeling subject in the first place. For $2.95 a bottle what on earth can one possibly strive to accomplish by playing home chemist on a project you just spent a month on. They make model finishes ready to go just like they make glues and paints....
They may even make enamel or laquer based semi and gloss finish coats as well. I believe mm metalizer sealer is a semi-gloss laquer.

I use Testors Dullcoat on just about everything as I like it a lot.. gives a nice dull finish.. I mostly use the spray It is a lacquer based product and requires a lacquer thinner... Future is an acrylic base. the two will not mix well.
Another Testors product is #1959 Clear Satin use it if you are wanting a satin finish, it comes in spray only and the Model Master technical reference says it is a semigloss or matte finish 50% gloss, and 50% Flat.
Always allow plenty of drying time before using over paint.. esp if you try to use it over acrylics..

Perhaps he doesn't have the same access to all the products you have, perhaps he doesn't have the financial well being you have. Perhaps he's trying to finish a project, and can't wait for a website to get around to delivering it.
I know that Dull coat is a lacquer base product, I can assure you I know that, since I spray 90+% lacquer or enamels. As for thinning the acrylic top coats, I wouldn't know, since I don't use them, that's why I said if you are using the ACRYLIC dull or flat coat, I IMAGINE you could thin it with future.

Dave, you are correct. I use both dullcote and the acrylic as well. The acrylic can be thick out of the bottle for some airbrushes and may need thinning. I use either acryl thinner or in a pinch alcohol and both work ok. I just dont use alot of alcohol. For the laquer dullcote I use airbrush thinner or plain enamel thinner and both work well.
I have never used future so I cant comment on it.
