Hi Class,
I have been working on this old DML 1/16 scale figure, and I'm just about ready to paint him. My question is: Is this smock right? I can't find anything in my refs. showing this smock. It is very close to the type 1 smock, but I don't show that camo style in that smock. Can anyone back up this camo pattern on this smock?
I appreciate the help,
Brian

Judging by the bow artwork, the MG gunner is Das Heer, rather than Waffen SS - the splittertarn being the giveaway.
IIRC, Heer smocks differed from W-SS types in minor details - Heer smocks had a tab and button arrangement at the cuff, while W-SS smocks had elasticated duffs, and so forth.
It shouldn't be too much of a reach to convert the figure from Heer to W-SS as there are many excellent references on W-SS uniforms around ( 'Waffen SS Uniforms in Colour Photographs' is pretty good, and you've probably got it already...)
Of course, you could always keep the figure in the Army and paint the smock in Tan / Water camo...

Thanks acav,
I'm not looking to convert him. But I gather from what you say is the Heer did indeed make this smock. Was the water pattern camo the only style they made these smocks in?

The Heer smock came in both Splinter pattern and Tan/Water pattern.
Both were reversible to white, which is an option if you don't fancy painting the camo...
