Hello all,
I am wondering what options are out there for DAK panzer crew members wearing a scarf or handkerchief over their face. I'd like to have these figures or heads to go along with a Panzer I A that I have.
I have seen it before somewhere, but can't remember where, plus I didn't know who made the figures or heads.
Thanks in advance,
Jason

Hi Jason,
Verlinden used to make a Africa Korps set with a crew commander wearing a scarf but I think it's long out of production, not sure though, check their site. Also try Hornet heads over at Colorado miniatures.

Yep, that's pretty much the look I had in mind. Looks like I might have to learn how to scratch a scarf with putty if I can't find a head or two.
Thanks,
Jason

You can make your own scarves fairly easy by using TFE pipe thread tape.FYI-this is the tape you put on pipe threads so the connections don't leak.
The tape is really cheap and alittle tricky to work with in this application, but comes out well.(the pics are not the best, sorry).Cut a 4 or 5" piece off the roll and gently pull against the figure's face.Carefully tie a half 'granny' or 'square' knot behind the head and gently cinch it up to the neck.Cut off tag ends.(I use moustache scissors). The natural color is white but it readily takes enamel paint as is.For acrylics,I coat it with Microscale's Micro-Flat(thinned white glue probably works also)first-as a primer-then paint from there. The Micro Flat will stiffen the tape up a little, allowing you to shape it some. The DAK ponchos in the pics above are examples. If you are really gentle, you can stretch the tape before attaching to cover more area(tarps, tents). It can also be glued to itself using cyano glues(seams can be hidden by folds).

cheers!
