Just published, a review of a forthcoming Osprey book which will be of great interest to builders of the Sherman - Osprey Modelling 35 - Modelling the US Army M4 (75mm) Sherman Medium Tank by Steven J. Zaloga. A superb book with a multitude of excelent techniques for armor modellers in general. The review can be seen:

Thanks Jim for the review.
I have just got the bug to build a Shermen and have been trolling the 'net for ideas. With not much cash I thought of the Tamiya M4A1 kit. TA35190 I think to start with.

This book looks like a must, especially if I build more than one eventually. What do you think of the Tamiya kit BTW. Good choice for someone to start with? Please consider I cannot afford aftermarket stuff but would get this book after reading your review.

This definitely may be worth a look. I usually don't go for these books since I feel they are of limited value for an experienced modeler if your not building the kit in the chapter, but I'm sure I could learn a thing or 2 from Steve Z.

I bought the Building the T34/76 almost a fortnight ago and was really impressed with the level of quality and information that this series offers, I would say that anybody who intends building any of the Sherman tanks, it would be money well spent investing in this book.

I intend to purchase some more of the series as I think they are exceptional value for the relatively small cost.

80 over pages? Isnt that quite large for an Osprey book?

Either way, im definitely purchasing it once its published in November. Much as im a modern armour fan, the sherman has a special place for me since its really the very first armour tank that i built when i first started off.

I do agree with Jim that it would be nice to have a chapter for beginners. I do find that most modelling books by Osprey are for the more intermediate to advance modellers.

It's not a bad kit to start out on building a Sherman TA35190 is the M4 mid production version Not the M4A1

Tony, even though the Tamiya Shermans are about the oldest out there, and there ISN'T such a thing as a 'perfect' kit, take a look at the DML ones - the M4a2 is REALLY excellent (it'll be available in a few weeks) or here's a good 'starter' - https://armorama.kitmaker.net/review/1337 - the advantage of this one, all the PE is included...Jim

Thanks for the reply's. I think I'll wait for the review of the new kit as I am not at all keen on the tracks for the of the Dragon kit out at the moment.
I understand you will have a review of the new kit soon Jim and I look forward to reading it as I understand it has easier tracks.
