I'm planning to expand my collection on reference materials for modern armour. Do you guys have any advice on which "must have" reference books I should get? All types and nations are interesting as long as it is from after WWII.

To me, a must have book is Jane's Tank Recognition Guide by Christopher Foss, 4th edition. It costs about $25 USD but has almost 500 pages of photos and info re: in-use Modern Wheeled/Tracked Vehices.

Hey Erik,

i would recommend the "Thunder Run" book on the US 3rd Infantry Division's drive to Baghdad. it is full of good colour photos that show M1's,Bradleys and M-113's amongst others. if you like building diorama's there are several photos that could inspire you.

This is a Concord book and i got my copy £18.

Hi Erik
This is a tipical "one million dollars" question ...is not so easy to answer. Anyway here are my suggestions, the first that come in mind:
- The Leopard 1 trilogy, from Barbarossa Books
- Char Leclerc, from the french ETAI
- Merkava, a special issue from Tankograd Publishing
- The finnish armored vehicles 1918-1997, from the finnish publisher APALI
- the P. Hunnicutt's books about the Patton, Abrams and armored cars, from Presidio Press

Hope this can help you

Ciao
Gaetano

Erik,

If you are interested in modern armour there are tons of books.

The Squadron series of "In Action" books has multiple modern vehicle titles.

Concord Publications has lots of modern armour books.

Osprey Publications has both modelling and modern armour reference books.

The Leopard 1 Trilogy by Michael Shackleton...best series of books dedicated to the Leopard 1....and I am not saying that because I was a contributor to the series.

Verlinden has multiple books on modern armour subjects.

The Great book of Tanks by David Miller.

The Encyclopedia of Tanks and Armoured Fighting Vehicles by Christopher Foss.

Jane's Tank Recognition Guide

Tankograd has lots of modern armour titles.

Wings and Wheels also has modern armour walk around books.

It's really up to you. You can spend a small fortune of reference material if you want.
