I'm just about done building DML's M1A1 AIM, and I'm thinking of adding the latest mods to it; I would like to clarify what were the enhancements that were not included in the kit.

From what I recall in some posts I read couple months ago, the latest external fittings include:

1. The infantry telephone box;

2. The power connectors for the TWMP (left side of the driver's hatch.

I guess that's it - have I missed out anything?

Furthermore, I'm considering adding a USMC BRE. I've seen photos of M1A2 SEPs that sport the same type of rack, so does that mean that it is currently - or soon to be - a standardized fitting for US Army tanks; meaning an AIM would be equipped with this as well?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Latest AIM versions also include a rear slave cable receptacle box over the T/I phone.

The USMC style BRE is also standard equipment on the newest AIMs coming out of rebuild.

Spent the last week tinkering on some of the newest stuff in Aberdeen, and talking with the Program Manager.

For M1A1 AIM's rolling off the floor, expect the tank to come stock with the collapsible bustle rack (AKA USMC BRE). Used to be purchased by units, but now being installed on the tanks as part of the Army buy. Small bit of data, but still a good thing to know.

The right vision block to the TWMP is only installed when the TWMP is mounted. It's part of the TWMP kit and not an AIM block mod. It privides a pass through for power to the TWMP from the slave recepticle and has the controls to raise and lower the plow.

If you are refering to this quote above:

"The power connectors for the TWMP (left side of the driver's hatch."

That is not what he means. On the latest AIMs, there is a separate power connector box on the external hull to the left of the driver's hatch. It allows the power cable for the blade to be connected and there is a separate control panel inside the driver's area. The block that closed off the right vision port is no longer used on them.

Man I got out too soon. I want to play with all the new toys. My last M1A1 HA was in Germany and we only received the Block 1 Mods. The AIM was fielded after I got out or in my last couple of years at Knox.

Honestly, you didn't miss much, we had the M1A1HA's in 2/37 AR when I first got there and that what we used for my first gunnery there (we shot 984... not bad) , then drew the M1A1 AIMS for my second gunnery there (only shot a 940 this time, but still not bad for a new crew on an unfamiliar tank), but really its not that different from the HA, just the electronics package and the new v-pack cleaning system. Now they have some cool things, but still the same on the inside. Laze and Blaze
