The US Army uses both the mine roller and the mine plow on M1A1s and M1A2s. There is either one roller tank or one plow tank per platoon. The USMC only uses the mine plow.

Hey Gino, my old tank platoon had a roller and plow tank with in it. I don't know how many units do that, and I'm sure that its not a normal thing for them to do, but it happens. Our "2" tank had the plow and my tank (the "3" tank) had the roller. We had M1A1 AIM's

They were a battalion asset and could be divided up between the platoons based on the company commander's and battalion commander's guidance.
I've been in battalions where there was a designated "breaching company" and all the assets were in that company. Another battalion had a breaching platoon per company, with all the equipment in that particular platoon.
The last battlion I was in had the equipment spread throughout the companies, but some assigned them all to one platoon and others spread them throughout the platoons.
There are pluses and minuses to each configuration.

If you poke around the Abrams photos at Prime Portal:
http://www.primeportal.net/tanks/m1_abrams.htm you can find some photos, most if not all the M1A2's are SEP's however.
There's some detail pics at Tanxheaven as well:

Markings for 2-37 AR, 1AD would look as follows.
Left side: Division and Bn #
1^ 2^37 (The ^ is actually a colored in black triangle)
Right side: Company and vehicle #
A 11, B 22, C33, etc.
Not sure, but I think their Bn ID # on the side was in the 30 series. HQ would be 30, A Co 31, B Co 32, C Co 33. For the combat chevron, ^ is 1st PLT, > is 2nd PLT, v is 3rd PLT.
The colors for NATO camo are Testors Model Master Medium Green, Field Drab, and Flat Black. Tamiya also has a set of NATO colors in acrylic, but the broown looks too new and bright to me.
It may also have the yellow and red European reflectors on the back as well.
Hope that helps.
