Hi Zach ..... Since my return to modeling 3 & 1/2 years ago, I have yet to do any MODERN CAMO. But when I do W.W.2 camo, what I do is apply the ground/base color, then I add my shading & drybrush highlites to the base color ............ THEN I apply my camo.
This way, the shadow & hilite's are already added and you apply the camo pattern over this, and just go back and touch up with some lite drybrushing. The result's are great, beacuse there no chance of fading out the camo patterns if you shade & drybrush first..
So in answewr to your question. If you do it like I explained - just darken your base coat by 2-3 shades for the shadow's & lighten the base by 2 shades for hi-lite/dry-brushing.
