Well, I have more or less finished the construction part of this Leopard. I need to remove a couple of track links from the AFV tracks and the tank need some touch ups here and there. I did some minor modifications to the front tow hooks, since they are not right in their original Revell configuration (at least not for a Norwegian tank). Side skirts are just "blue-tacked" on to see if they fit over the AM tracks. It seems like they will fit nicely without any modifications. The plan now is to paint and install the running gear before I install the side skirts. This is done because I find it a bit difficult to install the tracks after the side skirts are in place. However, here are some pics, comments and questions are as allways welcome.

I have the Italeri version of this kit and I'm working on it now. Any ideas of what you are going to do to spruce up the periscopes? Did I see correctly that Eduard makes a PE set for this?

I will leave the periscopes as they are. I could not find a PE set especially made for the A4, so I used Eduards Leopard 2 Improved set. Not their best set I think, since I ended up scratchbuilding some of the parts, rather than using the PE parts.

Hey Erik
Nice build. I don't know if you changed the loaders hatch I can't see it......
Just kidding :-) :-) Looks really nice. I can't wait to see this beauty in paint. You might have some real pics of the norwegian 2A4?? I would be interested.
Cheers Roel

Perfect...next question, what 120 mm did the Leopard II A5 have? Reason I ask is that I've just won a Tamiya Leopard II A6 from eBay and understand it has two barrels, the A5s' as well as the longer A6s'. I'm assuming the Tamiya barrel is better than the Italeri one (for my Leopard II) and that I can make it fit, again assuming it is appropriate. Experts please weigh in.

The A5 and A6 both use a L55 cannon but the A6 one is longer. http://www.fprado.com/armorsite/leo2.htm
Edit: Doh. I really need to work on my reading comprehension. The A5 (KWS II) and 2A4 have the L44 cannon.

Well so much for that bright idea... Wouldn't be so hard to swallow if Model Point's L44 wasn't 20$+

Why not use the A5 barrel on the Italeri kit and the A6 barrel on the Tamiya kit?

Well that's what I intended to do assuming the A5's barrel was right for the Italeri kit. Is there much visual difference between a L44 and a short barrel L55 (as on the Leopard 2 A5)?

So based on that, the L55 is visually similar to the L44 but for 1.3 M more length. But I imagine taking the scale equivalent of 1.3 M off the Tamiya kit's L55 won't simply give you a L44 inasmuch as I'm sure there is barrel taper? The barrel isn't a simple extrusion, is it?

I apologize for any confusion I may have introduced earlier.
If you use the L55 barrel on the D sprue from the Tamiya 2A6 kit then you have the L44 barrel on the B sprue left over. But not having the 2A6 kit myself only the 2A5 kit, I deduce from the D sprue picture on PMMS that you don't get an extra barrel tip with muzzle reference sensor. The MRS on the Italeri/Revell L44 barrel is pretty weak in detail.
If you have the Italeri Leo II kit then it has the early barrel. But the 2A4 and 2A5 have such different mantlets that I think it would be very difficult to utilize the barrel from the Tamiya kit. You'd have better luck using it on a Italeri/Revell 2A5 kit.
