I was thinking of buying a spraybooth. Usually I spray outside but it is just too cold to do so. Which ones do you recommend and why?

Why buying one, when you can build it your self very cheap.

Save your money for a few new models and paint #:-)

Maybe this can give you a idea

Actually my best friend just built one.

Got a range hood you would use over a kitchen stove, and just basically built 3 walls and a floor under it.....painted the inside with some cheap household white paint to give it a little better light...and mounted a flourecent tube work light in the range hood.....took a furnace filter between the booth and the fan on the range hood, stuck a dryer hose on the range hood out let, and feeds it out a window when he is using it....works like a charm.

White paint on the inside walls of the paint booth really lightens it up alot. You don't need as much electrical light then as the white paint reflects most of it.....if the white is getting painted over with the model paint too much.....just roll on another coat of household white paint.

Find the range hood at a yard sale, scrap plywood that you might have kicking around, some household white paint, and you have a paint booth complete with extraction fan. total investment...less than $50.

Thanks for the suggestions on building one - just a little concerned about the fan in direct path of vent versus indirect draw, amount of cfm's and the flters to use.

Figured it would be safer, health-wise, to purchase one that had been tested for safety.

Has anyone bought one?

I purchased one from Harbor Freight Tools about a year ago - for $68 dollars - and have been quite happy with it. It's plenty large enough and has a motor capable enough to do the job. Plus - the color is like Ferrari Red - can't go wrong with that.

No need to attempt to build your own if you're not comfortable with the idea.

Well think of it. A Range hood for a kitchen stove.....if you are burning something on the stove, you turn it on, you see the smoke rise up through. Would defiantly have enough cfm to pull paint. As far as a filter goes....replace the stock one with a furnace HEPA filter. just make sure to reroute the exit on the range hood, as it usually blows back in your face.....with that or mount it so the slope faces the back of the range hood., But if you attach a dryer hose to the exhaust vent....you can also put more filtering in the dryer hose....and not even have to vent it outdoors.......Hepa furnace filter in the range hood....on to 2 pieces of filtering in the dryer hose.....and nothing is coming out the end of it....you can't even smell the sprayed paint in the house.change your filters out once in awhile....you can usually get 4 filters for the range hood out of one furnace filter. Like I said....all for less than $50!! better than $200 plus like some of them you can buy.

I think I will check out Harbor Freight. Not too uncomfortable building something - I tear down my motorcycle engine to maintain it and have built many mechanical and electrical devices. Just a little nervous from the health and safety aspect of things. That's what happens when you get older! Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.
