Hello!
IŽd like a favor, if possible for you, Army and Marines felows.
IŽd like to receive pictures of all sides of the nowadays MRE boxes, the same in use in Iraq today.
If possible, the pictures I need should show all 6 sides and if still not asking for much, IŽd like to know the exactly measures of these boxes.
Thanks a lot in advance to you that can help me!!
Bye,
Marcelo

I don't have any pics that I took, but here are some from the internet, with expalantions.
Bothe sides have the same writing as below.
Outer sleeve has the below on both sides. You can see some of the bottom as well.
One end looks like this. The other you can see below in the helo shot.
Pretty good all-around shots.
I don't have the exact measurements, but the Tamiya and Dragon ones do measure out right, along with the ones you sent me.
Hope that helps.

Just be glad there are no more dehydrated pork patties and dehydrated beef patties any longer. They were really bad, and took a canteen and a half of water to get down. Omlett w/Ham was bad too.

"Super" Gino saves the day again!!!
Many thanks, man!
The pics you sent sonves my problems! My "old" boxes were not as acurate as IŽd like, so I decided to make the call here.
Now, with these pics IŽll be able to make more convincing boxes. Thanks a lot Gino!
Matthew, about my e-mail address, here it is: [email protected]
But donŽt worry to take more pics. These ones are great!
I didnŽt know they had that outer sleeve.
Thanks both!

Marcelo

Glad to help. I'd love to see the new ones when completed. Your original ones are great.

Hey Omlett With Ham was one of my favorite. But compared to todays MRE's there were all trash. Hell I was out for 2 1/2 years, after coming back in and looking at a box of MRE's I am totally amazed at how well they've done at getting us some decent meals.

Heck it only took 20 years to get them decent, but I noticed right before I retired they had taken out the instant coffee. Is that still the case? An Army with out coffee is criminal.

Not to get off subject--but we used to take all the cocoa beverage powder packets and save them and then fill someones sleeping bag full of them. lol. They would get back to the barracks from driving all day and get all ready for bed-- the lights would be out and you would hear them grumbling and throwing stuff and then yelling "PAYBACKS ARE A lady". And they usually were. I have a good baked bean story also but I'll save that for another forum......

I thought the worst was Chicken ala King. I liked the hotdogs. Coffee still comes in the MRE accessory packs, but they are small packs of name brand coffee and not the generic brand.

Got sick at Parris Island fromone of those freaking de-hy beef patties. Along with 7 or 8 other recruits from my platoon (1021), got to be encouraged by the DIs out in the woods to be extra-hardcore and "work it out of our systems"... I hated those things. Forever.
On the other hand, my vote for best MRE main course EVER goes to:
Pork w/ Rice in BBQ sauce.
I used to trade anything, desserts, whatever, for that packet. Mmmm, mmm, good.
Second place goes to the crackers and cheese. Loved that too

Marcelo,
If you buy the on vehicle accessory pack that is produced by Tamiya, You get a sheet of cut and fold boxes as part of the deal.

It is funny reading what you guys in the States say about your rations, as I think they are marvellous as were the previous type. But on the flip side I really got to dislike our compo rations, which always went down well with our US partners who were always prepared to swop when we were on NATO exercises.
So I guess its the same for every service unit that has to eat pre-packed rations. Mind you the French rations were also pretty good.

The nice part of being in the Navy were 3 delicious hot gourmet meals every day, at sea or in port, plus mid-rats. :-) Not to mention a warm comfortable bed each night!
I had the pleasure of trying the old "C-rats" once, and can say if an Army moves on it's stomach, I'm surprised the Army managed to moved an inch. Totally dreadful stuff. Was more like puke in a can.
Nice photos Gino. Thanks. :-)

The meals today are so diffrent. Depending on the time and place you get them depends if you get a few older ones or the new ones. And when you do find one or something you like they either get rid of it or you can find what you usedto in the same package anymore. Dives me crazy!! But they are a lot better then they used to be by far! and no matter what you get you still get the ol' mighty heart burn!! and they need to take ouot that nasty bread.. OMG that stuff is bad!! but at least it is food and they are better than those really bad T-Packs they used to have in the late 80's and early 90's. BLAAAAA!

Posted: Friday, November 24, 2006 - 05:57 PM UTC
I've been around long enough to remember the old C-Rats, as well as having been exposed to all the generations of MRE's, out of all of them, the only ones I can claim to like are the current generation (and that is marginally BTW) and the cold weather rations, we got several pallet loads of them from 1st AD when I was in Iraq in '03 and had them again while on Battle Griffen in '05...you want good eating go for the cold weather rations. Mmm, dehydrated rations....

I remember the first MREs. I miss the fruit-flavored styrofoam.
I was also apparently the only guy in the entire Army who actually liked the tuna noodles. :-)
I also remember C-rats. The best things about them were the matches, the Chiclets and the P-38 can opener -- the best piece of military equipment ever devised. :-)
