Applied Nato 3 tone camo instead of MERDC....was experimenting on Camo airbushing....this time, I thinned the paint more 6 part thinner and 4 part paint, reduce the pressure to 12 PSI.....
I like the results although I know this camo scheme was never used for this vehicle from my internet search.....
next is to start detail painting on the tools and the track and wheel
Comments are always appreciated

SImply SUPERB!!!!!!
Awsome modeling there Mike. Now a question, did you paint the entire thing while having the wheels and tracks attached to the hull? I just posted a question on the Armor forum about this. How are you planning to paint this area if, in fact, you have already attached it to the model?
I would really like to know how you approach this.
Thank much and, again, excellent build so far.

The camo is looking pretty good! You definately get better demarcation lines with low pressure and thinned paint, and I don't care how much you practice on milk jugs and card stock, nothing helps you learn better then actually painting the model itself. Keep us posted

Looks pretty damn good from here. Did the kit come with an interior? From the closed ramps, im guessing not but could you get an interior if you wanted? ie: kit bashing?

Mike,
Good job on the build. The Academy kit is not the greatest kit to build as far as details. I built one a few years ago as one of the LVTP-7s that Argentina used to invade the Falklands.
The cam pattern looks very nice but I don't know if it is the photo or the paint but the NATO brown looks far too light. It looks like a pinkish tan not the dark brown it should be. What paints did you use?

RobC, for this LVTP-7, I decided to put the wheel and track on before I start applying coat of paint into it...IIf you looked closely, you will noticed that the wheel and track are not properly done yet....

Thanks Kevin, I know what you mean....took me a while to figure out the right mixture of thinner and paint for my airbrush....I followed one of the previous posting, mixed accordlying....but could not get what I wanted...so I fine tuned the paint mixture and adjusted the pressure until I got what I want....
Mmm.....now...how do I describe that fine tuning process....that;s why modelling can be considered an art...not science.....:-)

Jeremy, no interior for me, not for now....still trying out on the camo paint...can only focus on one area at a time leh....:-) But I have the Academy M113A2 with interior. I might consider doing that Nato Camo with interior...but was the M113A2 ever deployed with the Nato 3 tone camo scheme...the box only showed 2 tone.......more internet seaching needed.....unless someone can help....will ask Gino later...:-)

Jason, you are right. I also think that the brown is too light. I used Tamiya Nato brown + Deck Tan (50% each)...I guess for this one since I was experimenting, I decided not to waste the paint I mixed ...
My previous Nato brown looks bettter, but the camo look horrible.....I had a hard time trying to find the right pressure for airbrush for the Gepard....
For this gepard, I used Tamiya Nato brown + buff (80 % + 20%)....
I need to weather the LVTP-7 more in this case :-)

Looking good. The brown looks O.K. to me. It fades pretty quickly in the elements. I use Model Master Field Drab for the brown on my NATO camo.
For M113A2s in NATO camo, yes indeed. They are just as common as they are in sand. Units in Europe and Korea have their vehicles in NATO camo.
Here is an M113A3 (w/ external fuel tanks), as the Tamiya kit box actually shows. A2s are also in the same camo.
Jeremy, there are no kits that include an interior for any LVTP7 variants.
Hobby Fan does have a rediculously priced resin interior for them though. Also, Warriors is supposed to be working on one. I scratched mine for my LVTP7-A1. It isn't totally accurate, but close enough fro me. I plan on doing another (more accurate one) for an AAVP7A1 RAMS/RS in OIF as well.
