One of the most lovely thing living in a multi racial country such as Malaysia is the amount of public holidays we got. With the Hindu Deevali and Muslim Raya celebrations near to each other, we got a straight 5 days off work including the weekend. Therefore I had the opporunity to complete this long overdue Vignette. Given all the "2 in 1" trends in armour. This vignette entitled "CAPTURED, Hungary 1944" is also a 2 in 1 stories where the GI CAPTURED a POW and at the same time The Rooster CAPTURED a little worm for lunch... Hope you like it !!!

Happy Modelling
Allan Yong

Hi Jerry,

The entire vignette is painted in Vallejo model color acrylics. Pls goto Vallejo home page and read article by Mario Fuentes painting in acrylics...excellent article..that's how I started.

As for the rooster...preshape different color tones (always start with darker base color) as you desire, then use a good W&N Series 7 000 brush with thins transparent paint mixture and paint the feather one by one. The flow of the brush stroke should follow how the feather build up. Start from darkest color slowly build up to the ligthest. It took me about 3 hours to complete this rooster.

Hope this helps

Gday Allan
A really well planned out vignette! There is just the right amount of objects contained in it... The figures look very well painted
The scrunched up map is a great touch, and the figure choice and expressions reflect the tide of the war at this time...
I appreciate the effort you have put into the rooster! It would be easy to have it as just an 'extra' in the scene, but as you state, it hold it's place with it's own story!
Great job
Cheers

This is a splendid vignette. I love it ! Congratulations Allan, your figure painting is fantastic.
I have a few questions: What figures did you use? I need interesting figures, and these are very nice.
Second question, and i want to specify that i am running on thin ice here:
How could a GI make a german prisoner in Hungary in 1944 ?

Cheers
Claude

Very nice piece. Well laid out and excellent paint job.
Only question: Were there any Americans in Hungary in 1944?
I think (and I've been wrong before) that Russians 'liberated' Hungary working to the west.
The allies were still in France and later in '44 western Germany .

Cheers,
Charles

So simple, but so effective - outstanding
That rooster is a work of art on its own - I would never have imagined it could be detailed so much.

Hi Garth, Brad, Chris - thanks for the compliment

Hi Claude/ Charles - I must have got it wrong then...as usual lack of reseach. I thought I flipped through one of my references there were some Sherman deployed into Hungary in 1944, probably is Russian tank crew in US one piece rather than GI...lesson learnt, be more careful next time. Thanks.

Hi Allan,

You only need to rename it. But how? The only winter where Americans and Germans met was 44/45.
And then we come to a question i would like to have answered also from anyone . The German in Alan's vignette, seems to have the "Kharkov" coat. (i have not a better term for it now)
Could Alan, and me, because i own some Kharkov- Tank figures, place this guy in the Ardennes?

Allan, i'm still interested who produces this GI

Thanks

Hi Claude

The GI is produce by famous Alpine Miniatures, all 1/35 scale sculpted by talented Tae Sung. If you are in WWII figures, you cannot miss this brand. There are also official sponsor for Armorama..look around and you should find it...

The combination would be appropriate for the Alsace/Lorraine campaigns in 1945. The "kharkov" anorak has been confirmed in use in small numbers, at least..

Nice vignette, Allan.

Hi all,

Alan, superb masterpiece you've done ! Very expressive vignette !
Claude, I've never seen this kind of "Kharkov coat" on Ardennes pictures or german news. I didn't know they were used in Alsace Lorraine neither. I thought they were only used on eastern theatre..
Best,
Julien

Hi Ron,

Many thanks. You're a saviour ...your resource is always reliable.. I just need to change the title now. I guess you will be visiting Dutch National show shortly. Goodluck and it was nice meeting you personally in your last visit to that show probably ~5 years back.

Not sure if you still recall me..the one with the "contraversial figure' - "Fuhrer's Last Day"

Thank for your contribution in our hobby, always enjoy your plates and latest books released in Concrod are excellent works of yours again.

Allan
