Quick question on the Abrams MG mount ring

I have a question as I can't find any good pics of the top of the turret. On a modern M1A1/A2, the adjustable turret ring for the 7.62 mg mount. Is it painted and worn down over time, or is it left bare metal and kept lubricated?

Definately MM stainless steel buffing metalizer is a dead 'ringer' for it
