Wow, Robert! What do I think? How do you
DO that great photo-etch work at that scale?
For a minute, I was especially thrilled to see this thread and those outstanding photos. I was about to throw in the towel on my own nearly-failed Weasel scratchbuild and ask where I can buy this kit - until you revealed its scale. Mine is in 1/35th.
I started with the Monogram kit, but quickly realized it wasn't going to be suitable, so I started scratchbuilding it. It looks like a simple enough design, doesn't it? Even I, who have never scratchbuilt anything, should be able to do this. I've done some pretty darn good figure conversions, if I may say so myself. I've got multiple schematics and zillions of pictures, but the schematics aren't true mechanical drawings. If they were, I could simply measure unmarked dimensions and everything would work out - but so far, none of the math has added up to the dimensions that I do know.
Here are photos of two versions of this thing. The first image is my first attempt, which I was very pleased with until I realized that the dimensions were so far off:
The second image is the current version (#6, if anyone's counting!), which is much closer, but still no good. I'm about to toss it and start again:
Robert, on second thought, where
do I get one of these resin kits? I was thinking of doing a 1/72 scene as well, someday... Anyway, please please PLEASE keep posting more pictures of this project
Gary - Any chence you could put me in touch with the museum in Kansas? Or at least share some of those pictures?
John - I've been to Fort Lee several times, but I never saw a Weasel there. Where was it? If it's still there, I could take my own measurements whenever I want. I found a guy who owns one in great condition here in Virginia, but it's two and a half hours away in the back corner of a dark garage. Not very convenient!
Thanks, guys!
