morning folks,
may it sounds stupid, but I´ve got no idea.
What is better for making dust effects: Either "professional" pigments (mig productions for example),
or some kind of rasped off pastel chalk dust?
or is it all the same?
thanks in advance
max

Max,
I am not an expert, but pigments are the material that oil paints can be made from and the types of pastels that work are more chalk like I think.
I find that pigments are superb to use and come in many schemes and seem to be more stable, resisting some handling, can be blended and fixed with things like thinner/water.
It would be wrong to say that pastels are out now that pigments are more available, but I find myself using them less and less.
One small warning, the 'oil pastels' do not work the same as the chalk type, so they are best avoided in my eyes. Give both pastels and pigments a try and see what you find the most useful.
I hope this helps,
John
