Aloha everyone!

Just scanning through the different websites and came across a site that had plenty of AEF Designs creations. While there were many interesting conversions from Russian/Polish T-55 conversions to American LAV conversions does anyone have the low down on the quality of their work?

Happy Modelling!!

Heh-heh, I suggest you do a search on any of the armour discussion groups, you'll turn up lots. You'll find people either don't mind them or absolutely hate them. Personally, I'm on the side of don't mind 'em. Definitely not for the beginner, but a good base. Quality can vary greatly, but usually dimensions are pretty accurate. You'll find that quite often parts will have to be rebuilt or scratchbuilt even, but considering some of the subjects they do, only game in town. If you do order, don't be in a rush. Order and forget about it, then it'll be a nice surprise when the package shows up!

Pretty much sums it up right there.. add incomplete packaging for many items, slow customer service, poor communications and inconsistant casting quality.

Jim's right too though, if you want some of those subjects, modern Russian interiors or IDF stuff, they're the only game in town.

The BMP3 interior I had arrived missing a few parts, getting them was a long adventure.
But what was there for the lower hull and 'tunnel' at the rear section was brilliant.
The turret, much less so. Very incomplete, with no attempt even at the autoloader.

Years ago I bought the DML BTR70 interior and it was frankly extremely disappointing> parts missing, parts incompletely cast, the rest badly warped. I have never ordered from them since.

Just my humble 2 Canadian cents

I really liked some of their work, was disappointed with others--it's a crapshoot, really. Last batch I bought had a really tenacious mold release all over the parts--vaseline, possibly. Couldn't budge it with soap, alcohol or mineral spirits. Finally got them cleaned up by dunking them in acetone.
AEF Designs has managed to stay in business since the late 1980's, so they must have more satisfied customers than not.

I only buy their stuff when I can see it first hand at shows. Or get pictures of the items from eBay. That is pretty much it. No direct orders as I do not have the patience to put up with that form of customer service.

I know a lot of vendors who carried their line have since dropped them because they are too finicky, unique items or not.

However, I have enjoyed about 3/4 of what I have bought of their stuff, so it is not all doom and gloom. Think of it as trip to the Casino...you are taking a gamble... :-)
