Does anyone build this as a kit, or is some scratch building in order :-)
cheers

Tamiya's M577A1 was recently re-issued and is pretty readily available. It will need some mods to make it into an Israeli version, but it will be pretty easy to do so.
Good luck.

You would have to do a lot of scratchbuilding on the Tamiya kit to get the IDF M-577.
AEF does a few but as you would probebly alredy have read it's not the best manufacturer in town but the only on who doe a conversion for this type of vehicle.
AEF
And this is the photo Click me
The IDF name for this vehicle is Mugaf
Hoop it helps

Wow thanks for the replies!
I was going to build the Canadian version actually, just posted the first pic that came up (sorry).
I saw the tamyia version but can't seem to find one locally and was wondering if another manufacturer had one.
cheers

Nope, only Tamiya does one. Great Models is showing it as a Pre-Order. There are a couple on eBay too.

As said, Tamiya's kit is the only injection moulded plastic one available. I've always wondered about how this kit went together, and who makes the best series of vehicles based on the M113 chasis...

Academy's M113 series is the best. They are very detailed, have full interiors, offer both indi-link or rubber band tracks, and have lots of extras. Tamiya's are pretty good and go together easily, as do Academy's. Tamiya's have some issues though, like the upper troop hatch is molded with the release chain on the wrong side. Stay away from the Italeri/Revell ones, they are pretty bad.
For a nice M577, the best bet is to take Tamiya's M577 upper hull parts and mate them to an Academy lower hull and interior, with M577 specific interior parts (fuel cells, work tables, TC stand, etc.) sctratched. That is what I plan on doing...eventually.

The Tamiya M577 isnt that bad a kit OOB, as long as you have the hatches closed up as it doesnt have an interior. Conversion to a Canadian "Queen Mary" is fairly simple as I believe we just copied the US design/layout pretty much exactly.

I was going to get some pics from the ones in the "herbie" compound, and scratch anything I had to to make it Canadian. Friend of mine wants one like he had in Germany lol.

Scratch building an interior will be very easy. IIRC, the 577A1 that I commanded and drove was far more sparten than a 113. The sidewalls, areas above the tracks and batteries and floor would need to be done. In the 577A1 I drove and commanded HQ 13 was pale green inside w/a shelf along the wall on the drivers side for equipment/radios excetera. on the oposite wall was a 4x8 sheet of plywood. The interior heater is in the same location as a 113 as are the engine compartment hatches. The only thing that I can't remember is the location of the fuel tank.

The fuel tanks run along both sides of the hull on top of the track sponsons, under the work tables.
More pics at Prime Portal.

Not quiet true. If you want to build a current Canadian M577A3, there's a lot that needs to be done. New sprocket/tracks, new generator, all kinds of bins/equipment up top, smoke grenade launchers etc, etc. Tamiya kit still needs work to do an older one, at least some Diehl tracks needed.

I agree with Jim,
The new Canadian M577A3 is quite a bit different.
But you may be in luck for building an M577A1 used in Germany. They all looked like the basic versions.
Here is a couple of links that will help you out for painting and decals:

Thanks Jason. I'm pretty sure that it will be a mid 70's Gemany model.
TX again for the links!

Thank you both Jim and Jason. I was thinking the old A1, but had completely forgotten we even had the A3's.
Then again, Im in Kingston with the Communications and Electronics reserve units. Most of what we have are light and medium trucks, jeeps, and a few green painted pickups.

The WSW resin conversion for the M577 interior is for the Bundeswehr variant....no fancy bucket seats in the older M577A1.
