Minor conversion of the Tamiya M10 to give our Brit wargaming units some firepower. First try at using Tamiya plastics for crew. I thought they were gonna look too small but in the end I think they fit quite well.

cheers
Brent

I was considering a similar conversion. Just curious - where did you find a 17lb breech conversion, or did you scratch-build one. Another neat 'what if' conversion is adding applique armour to the front of the M10 and installing the Firefly turret - Sherman turrets will fit on the M10 - to make an M10/Firefly tank.

I'm amazed at how well some of you guys can paint the 1:48 figures - well done! (and the AFV looks nice too!)

Hey Brent,
Nicely done.
From the shape of the turret, it's an Achilles Ic that you've built.
I've been wanting to do something similar with one of your model's 1/35th scale "big brothers".
I've built the AFV Club and Academy Achilles IIc kits and I've noticed something odd about the barrel on your kit.
It could be just the angle the photo was taken from but the gun barrel doesn't look long enough and appears to be missing a cone shaped collar where the barrel entered the gun mantle.
This feature has been on both of the larger Achilles IIc's I've built.
From the photo, it just doesn't appear to be the same mounting as the 17pdr on the Achilles IIc.
Do you know if the gun barrel mounting on the Achilles Ic was different than the one on the Achilles IIc?
Thanks.
Cheers

Nice looking tank. Works like yours are convincing me about 1/48 scale. Not too small like a 1/72 but enough detail like a 1/35 but takes much less shelf space. But I'm having a hard enough time with 1/35 figures. But your's looks good

I have a question though. I've built a 6pdr and a 25pdr gun. Never done any 17pdr. I'm just wondering what are the diameter of those ??pounders?

Hey Mondo,
The 6 pounder's barrel was 57mm in diameter and the 25 pounder's was, I beleive, an 87.5mm.
The 17 pounder was 76.2mm or 3 inches in diameter, same as the U.S. 76mm and 3 inch guns.
The 17 pounder had a much bigger cartridge casing than it's American cousins.

Cheers
