Just thought I'd post a picture of a damaged HMMWV that my son took in Iraq. The one was just in front of his when it was hit by an IED. I think he said it was a buried 105 shell.
No one was injured in the incident.

Wow Tony that looks scary, it's good to know that your son made it through it. God bless your son.

Thanks Joe, I appreicate it. This incident occurred somewhere near Tikrit. He's assigned to a PSD for a Colonel and they truck everywhere he goes. He's been there since early September and this is the only time the trucks have been hit. He's been mortared a few times, but no injuries.

Glad to hear your son and the folks who were in that Humvee are all OK, Tony.
Looking closely at the Humvee, it looks like an M1114 with add-on armor. I didn't realize that troops were now adding additional armor to up-armored Humvees! The new armor seems to be spaced off of the sides by at least an inch or two.

Thanks for all the good wishes. Yeah he told me they had started adding the extra armor plates just before he got in-country. This was the last of August. When they took over for the unit that wqs coming home, they started adding the extra plates. He's upposed to sen me some pics of the new configuration soon. I'll post them as soon as I get 'em.

Glad your son is fine. Tell him to stay safe and keep his head down from me too.
I had heard of the new add-on armor plates for M1114s. They seem to work really well. Amazing how much HMMWVs have changed over the last few years. When I was there in '03, I was still driving around in a soft-top, 4-door command HMMWV. Glad I didn't run into anything like that one did. I would have been shredded.

Tony,
Tell you son to be careful around the Samarra Bypass - I am sure that he already knows that. My boss, the 1st Brigade, 3ID Commander got hit twice, with the second being the worse as the M1114 went up in flames and our S-3 lost half of his foot.
These mods that are on the UAH are double from what we were running in the same area a year ago. Good to see that they have gotten TAGS, added th ewindshields on the turrets and the additional door armor. Hopefully the fuel cell has been armored also - that plastic stock tank just did not cut it when the knuckleheads started to bury IEDs in the road... Tell him that we are all pulling for them to come home asap, when the job is done.

Gary, the hood is up. You can barely catch a little bit of the hood in the upper left corner of the picture. It looks to be factory green.

Thanks again for all the kind words. I have passed them on to Justin. Hopefully he'll continue to stay safe. I'll be happy when all our troops are back home and safe. As I said before, as soon as he sends me some pics of the vehicle (undamaged), I'll post them.

He'll be there until next September. He is with the 105th En. GP, assigned to HHC, attached to the 25th ID at Camp Speicher. He volunteered to go over with that unit because he knew some of the guys with that Guard unit. He works full time at the NCNG Headquarters in Raleigh, N.C. I hope you don't have to go.

That's cool, Pete. Glad to hear it. Justin told me there were a lot of units leaving and getting ready to leave as they got in. Glad he got back safe and sound.

Not really. Esci/Ertl made a LAV-C command vehicle that had the raised rear troop area, but it was pretty bad and is long OOP. If you could find one, Maple Leaf Models makes the fat, Canadian tires and some other Canadian conversion pieces for them. You could also try converting an Italeri LAV-M mortar carrier too, but it has a low troop area, more work.
Edit: There is an Esci/Ertl LAV-C on eBay now.
Good luck.

the only Bison models that I have seen were scratch built using the Lav 25 kit from Italeri or maybe Trump? I would like to build one for obvious reasons, but don't quite have that skill level yet :-)
Tell your son to stay safe!
