Hello all,
I haven't posted any builds for quite some time and I think this one is turning out ok. Any feedback is quite welcome.
This is AFV Club's 1/48 Tiger I "Final", built OOB. This is my very first attempt at 3-color camo and this was airbrushed freehand using various MM, Tamiya, & Polyscale acrylics. The kit decals literally fell apart on me, so I came up with generic numbers using Archer Fine Transfer dry transfers on the turret. The balkencruz are the kit decals.
I'm at the tweaking and weathering stage right now. I need to mess with the tracks a bit as they're not 100% where I want them to be sag-wise. I've done a light wash with oils and starting using pigments on the tracks, which are dry-brushed using Games Workshop Boltgun Metal.
Thanks for looking
- Frank

That is REALLY nice work - we really don't see enough of this kit on the forums, thanks!

Thanks Jim!
There's some prejudice against 1/48 out there, but these AFV Club and Skybow kits build up really well. A lot of detail, plus a quick build (just a couple of days). Even the vinyl kit tracks are nice.

Nice build Frank! I have to agree with you on the tracks, I constantly read about the need to replace these vinyl tracks with the individual link option, (also supplied by Skybow) but as you have shown, there is no need.

Thanks Frank!
One thing I really like about the tracks is that they're very pliable and they hold paint well. They were basecoated with Tamiya NATO Black and I had no issues with paint chipping off. I was able to pop these onto the tank quite easily.
One neat thing I found about using the Games Workshop paints is that they dry slower than your usual acrylic. I had a lot of working time when drybrushing the tracks.

BTW: Do the vinyl tracks dry up and become stiff after you painted it???

Christopher,
The tracks stayed very flexible after painting, unlike my previous experience with vinyl Trumpeter tracks. I was really surprised as how pliable they remained.
