Finally managed to take some pictures of my first ever 1:35 model. What a good kit this was to build, just fantastic! (Only the spare wheel to add after I have used it for some tyre marks in the snow.)
It is going to be in a diorama with members of the 101st in Bastogne, on a recon patrol.
(Sorry about the lightling in some of the pictures...)

Please tell me what you think, and any points that I should consider etc!

Harry
(Thanks to Dave for the binoculars!)

That is really good! You've done a fantastic job on it. It should look great in a diorama.

Looks great for a first build. One area it could use some attention in is mold lines. The tires and a few other parts have mold seam lines that need to be sanded or scraped off. In particular, I see them on the wheels, .30 cal ammo can, and binos. Sand these down and it will look great. Good job.

For a first effort it looks pretty good.
Just need to sharpen up a few skills cleaning up seams, and you'll be doing great.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I saw these mold lines too. When I posted the pics, I thought to myself, "Someone will mention the tires!"
They really are not that pronouced in the 'flesh', but I will sand them down later today, along with the other items mentioned.
Just use some fine grade sandpaper?

The front headlights went a little weird, is this to do with getting glue on the clear plastic?

Thanks,
H

Sandpaper will do, or you can scrape them with a sharp xacto blade purpendicular to the line. The headlights did fog or craze due to the glue. I find that I can usually just push the lenses in after painting and the paint buildup alone will hold them. If that doesn't work, a bit of white PVA glue (Elmer's school glue) holds them fine and doesn't effect the clear plastic.

Good looking job there.. one thing you might consider is to drill out the ends of the MG barrels slightly for a more realistic look...

The Jeep looks lived in. The color on the M36 bag is close to a 1943 made one that I have. Jeep seat canvas is OD, very close to paint color by 1944. Fades out pale green out here in Arizona.

Hi Harry. Apart from the few small items already mentioned, it looks great. Especially for a first. I made this starting out as well, and it looked nowhere as good.
I likethe snow/dirt build up under the arches. This model will really come alive when set on some ground work. Nice one.

I love that jeep! I like how you gave it a few teeth (gunnage).
I'm gonna have to do one now that I'm on a allied vehicle kick.
The snow/mud is superb.

Gday Harry
Great first 1/35 job!
The little things people have mentioned are 'once only' errors/omissions...
From here on in you will recognise them all and fix them as you proceed, I'm sure
No one has mentioned the lack of ammo box on the .50cal... I don't know how accurate it is to model the rounds belt just laying in the the holder like that... I could be wrong, but I've never seen this before!
A drop of clear gloss would make the tail/brake lights 'pop' a bit more, and give a bit of contrast to the remaining well-used look...
Cheers
Brad

Thanks, modelerama! Will post some more 'stuff' for either the figures or the completed dio!

Sgt Shultz - If you are on a Allied building spree, I cannot recommend this kit more. Best kit that I could have chosen! I got the idea for the side mounted 30cal from some old B&W film I was watching when I was ill (Darby's Rangers?), and liked the idea; it's just something different...

Brad - Yeah i recognised the tires earlier, and then I saw the other items when they were pointed out to me.
Would Johnsons Klear be good for the lights? I like what you said about that, good tip!
I based the ammo belt/no ammo box idea on Oddball's Sherman in Kelly's Heroes, just liked the idea - again something a little different! I've never seen it before other than in that film either, but it took me ages (I used bits of pencil lead along with some plastic 50cal bullets) so it's staying!

Thanks,
Harry
