When were you guys in Baumholder? I was there from 85-88 . I was in Aco 2-68 Armor. They still had gamma goats then. I think that they were the loudest machines ever built.

One of my buddies was in 2-68 at this time. His name was Phil Keyes, he was a 1LT at the time.

Robert,
I was in Baumholder from 77 to 79.

Tom,
I had totally forgotten about 3/16 FA. All these years I had been remembering 1/2 FA as having the M110. I appreciate the correction/reminder.

I also remember the 1/81FA, we went to Idar Oberstein once to get some sprockets off of one of their M109A1s that was scheduled to be taken out of service.
You guys sure do bring back a lot of memories.

Robert, I arrived in October of 1972 and spent the next three years in 1/2 FA (hence the nickname which we in the battalion did NOT use!). I then transferred to Post HQ and stayed on the staff there until April of 1977 when I PCS'd back to the States and the next 25 years in the USAR.

I haven't been back to Germany since but I'd really like to. Having spent three years as a dependent with my family from 1962-1965 as well I have a lot of memories. Unfortunately, a LOT of the things I remember and grew up with are long gone now that the US Army in Europe has gotten so much smaller.

Oh yeah! Spiesbraten was one of my favorites too, along with Jagerschnitzel! I like the way they cooked Spiesbraten swinging over a log fire. I need to go back there some day just to get some..... it's lunch time here at work and all of a sudden this turkey sandwich just isn't cutting it.

For everyone who was in Germany during the Cold War, here is a very detailed site that covers it all.
