Gday all
Any dabblers into the world of HF would possibly know that I picked up some Magic sculpt, and therefore sculpted my latest from it...
Much easier to work with than the milliput!
He has stunt collar head hands and boots, I was just eager to see his dimensions...(so to speak;)

Kinda like sculpting now, so expect a different figure in the works!
Cheers
Brad

Hey Bradley,
(Yoda voice)Hhmmm..the darkside you are now becoming not .. Hhmmm ??
I've been following this over on HF,and i'm liking what i see digger.Sculpt wise your Tankers clothes seem to have the right creases etc. in the right places.Tempted to try my hand at sculpting myself,if a plumber can rustle something up like that, imagine what a interior decorator with fine hands could achieve?!
Keep those pics coming,it's going to be a pearler when it's finished!!
Cheers,Shay

Hi Bradley

I really like the feel you have for sculpting. The creases and folds in the clothing are very well done and equally so the pose of this charachter is very well captured. Well done, sir!!

Keep up the good work!

Keep us posted!!

Regards
Garth

I can see a great future for you in sculpting, Brad. Some excellent crease work. If you can achieve this onyour first attempts, one can only imagine what you could achieve after some more practise!

Hi Bradley,

Congratulations !
For a first try it's really good. He has a natural pose, which I guess is the most difficult bet when you sculpt a 54 mm fig.
Keep on the good work ! and you definitively convinced me to try magicsculpt !!

Best,

Julien

Thanks for the positive feedback lads!
~Shay, my hands are rough and tough (until 4:30pm each day) but being left handed, this artsy stuff just comes naturally... I can't turn it off :-)
Have kinda always had a keen eye for recreating works accurately in drawing/sketching, so I guess this is just the step to 3D!

Gday Charles... Yep he is, though didn't they all?
~Garth, Thanks! The folds almost come naturally afer a while... But then it got to the point where I was wondering what each section would look like once it was glued together, but kinda worked...and yep, I'll keep you posted on my next tanker...
~Frank, thanks, and it's amazing how it changes your impression of every resin figure you see once you have dabbled in it yourself... You can actually see how the great sculptors have achieved their work... But hey, the hard stuff hasn't been attempted yet! The head, hands and boots...
~Julien, thanks also, and with a little trial and error, you develop a deeper understanding of what steps to take
~AJ, I recommend going to Historicus Forma and having a look around. The magic sculpt is from the US of A, so I imagine it shouldn't be too difficult to get a hold of...
Cheers

Hi T Rex Jim,

You can find a discussion on the respective merits of Magicsculpt and Milliput on HF forum. I understood MS is better for thinner details, but for larger surfaces and conversion it's worst than Milliput due to small adhesion to stirene...

Best,
Julien

@Julien - thanks for that - I have just found a European supplier of Magic Sculpt whose prices seem VERY reasonable:

Jim, Julien has basically explained the diffs... I by no means am saying milliput is bad, but that Magic sculpt in its unwetted state seems to shape better, and when water is applied for smoothing it doesn't get that stickiness of milliput... Basically, the finish is super smooth where needed!

Very nice Brad, I've been keeping my eye on this sculpt (as I'm messing around with sculpting myself) its really coming along nicely mate. Is it for the bogged down Sherman dio? or do you have yet another project on the go?

Keep us posted

Outstanding sculpting and detailing on your figure, Bradley! That figure is just perfect for a Bastogne scene I have in mind. Keep up the great work. Dave

No worries Jim
You can never have too much variety in your 'stuff' :-)

Yes and yes Matt! He will probably feature along with another, who willl be looking just as disgusted with the situation... Or maybe bemused!

Thanks Dave, and pray tell what your scene will involve?

I hope to depict a tank of Team O'Hara, of the 10th Armored Division, early in the seige. I'm assembling some troops to go with my modified Tamiya M4. The M4 is marked based on Zaloga's color plate in Concord's Battle of the Bulge book. Please be sure to post more pictures of your figure, as you paint him. Happy Holidays! Dave

Ok, the figure I had in mind got crushed under the castor of my office chair...
So another was worked on during the cricket on telly...

He has one of Taesungs' finest heads in place.. and I think that's how it'll stay! I have moulded the collar around its jawline... He was initially going to be in place as the commander, but decided his arms seated better on the drivers hood and guntube...

There's plenty of room for refinement, and that is the beauty of Magic sculpt, in that it is very forgiving for adding to, later on... Things like the waist, zipper, patches, and the smoothing out of some of the folds... Oh, and some LEGS! :-)

Here's a shot of him in place...

Please feel free to give me advice on things to change~ I need to get him done and dusted for the Purple Hearts campaign which only has a month or so left to run

Cheers
Brad

Looks great, Brad! The collar at his jaw is a very convincing touch. The Sherman is coming along nicely, too. Keep up the great work. Dave
