Excellent idea! I do like it!
Are these decals or what? Maskol is tough enough to remove decals as well, if they are not protected!

Nice visual demonstration of the technique for the worn whitewash, the beast is massive for sure. I don't know a lot about the IS-IIs, when did they enter service?

Hi Bill,
They entered service in 1943 as an opposition to the German Tiger.
@Giacomo: I did use the decals provided with the kit but I didn't knew Maskol could do any harm to them. I used Microsol and Microset for the decals, so maybe that prevented them from coming loose
I'll keep you updated!
Thanks,
Jurjen

Hi
First of all - great model! Very nice technique.
I have the Zvezda IS-2 waiting on my work table. I will begin on it shortly. I am considering the worn winter scheme as well.
Is this the Dragon model?
What barrel did you use? It looks like an after market item?
@wbill76: I believe it entered service in mid 1944. There are actually some very nice camo schemes for these beasts. Among others a three colour hard edge version with sand, black and green as far as I remember.

Are you sure the IS-2 entered service that early? Was it not the IS-1? I could be wrong however

Hi Guys,
You're right 1944, my mistake
@Jesper: I used a Jordi Rubio Barrel. Not that expensive but really increases the look of your vehicle:)
@Armorjunior: I used the toothbrush to rub off the maskol. Just for the larger areas. The smaller drops of maskol were removed with the tweezers. Fun job if you're bored

Beautiful. I've been waiting for DML to release a 'revamped' IS-2 before picking up one of these beasts.

Jurjen,
It looks great.I want to try your technique on my 1/48 KV-2.Is Maskol necessary or will a clear flat work as well to protect the base coat ? I assume yo use it to protect the basecoat while you use the toothbrush to remove the white.
thank-you

Hi Anthony.
Clear protects the base paintwork and decals. Then where you want to show the base colour, you apply maskol. Then spray white over all the tank. The toothbrush is rubbed over the bumpy areas (where maskol was applied) to remove the maskol and show the base colour again. ie; the worn whitewash.

Hi Jurjen. Great use of the maskol. The effect looks great. Looking forward to seeing this weathered.
I see you use an evolution airbrush. Thats the same as what I use. Great brush eh?
Theres an addition you can buy for it, to control the paint flow. You replace the back end piece with this replacement and it allows you to lock the paint control. Makes life very easy! It clicks on and off, and allows you to adjust the paint flow very quickly.

Hi Frank,
it is indeed a superb airbrush. I used to have an Aztek A470 but this is soooooo much better :-) I have heard good stories about the paintflowcontroller. I really need to invest in one!
Thanks,
Jurjen

Hi Jurjen.
If you believe there was an improvement between the aztek and your new evolution, think about jumping the same again with a simple addition. Things like post shading, controlling fine lines, filters, etc. become fun, because the control is so much better and easier. Cant recommend this piece enough.
What .... you´re still reading? You should have been out of the door towards your nearest store allready! :-) :-) :-)

Small update. Made some brown paintchips and painted the air intake vents. Nothing special though
Next step: Black/brownish wash

Wonderful work! Did you fix the height issue on the hull? Its about 1.8 mm too close to the fenders - it'll be aparant once you put those tracks on.
Also, are you planning on replacing the wheels - Dragon's are too small.
Fruil makes replacements and the Italeri ones are okay.
Sorry to nit-pick ; I do really like your techniques, Very realistic!
