You might be better off trying a later version of the Tiger? Although the initial one by Tamiya is good enough i think the later version is the best on teh market. You can't really go wrong with either but the later version is my favourite

Hi
I have built this kit and liked it very much. Out of all Tamiya's Tiger 1 kits I found this one to be the best.
But I hope you already own one, for this kit is now out of production, and hard to find.
In fact I'm looking for one myself, that's how good it is. If I can make just one suggestion, buy a set of after market tracks. It really makes a great difference in the finial look.
Have fun building!

Nice thing about doing an early Tiger is that there is the "no zimmerit to mess with" option that later variants do not have. That's probably the biggest discourager for my building Tigers, Panthers and the like.

The initial production is a most excellent kit. One of the best fitting models I've built. The hoses for the Feifel air cleaners are a bit of a pain to cut neatly and the whole assembly from the filters to the engine deck is a little fiddly, but with some care it goes together fine.
Sabot, I know what you mean, zimm-less construction is one of the reasons I got the initial version!

If I am not mistaken this one the early is OOP. So I would get it just to have.

If the Tamiya initial production is out of production..the Academy Early Production Tiger is a great build. A very good model to have in your "NEW" Tiger collection. Jeff

Actually, the more recently released Tigers (the Initial and the Afrika) are the most accurate 1/35 scale kits you can get. Yes the Academy kits are good too, but the most recent Tigers from Tamiya are the only ones on the market with asymmetrical turrets. This is covered in detail on http://Tiger1.info/ . The asymmetry is a little off, but better than on all the other kits.
Unfortunately, the kit you are after is getting hard to find. I'm sure Tamiya will rerelease it soon. Try HobbyHQ, or some other Australian sources, or Hobbylink Japan. They seem to be able to turn up rare kits.
I have it, it's nice!
Cheers

You can see them on eBay from time to time. They range anywhere from $35.00 - $50.00 plus shipping.
